Ok, so I'm planning to buy a 3G model at Best Buy when they become available (that way I can put it on that card...)

Anyhow, just wondering what the pros/cons are of the two plans?

Applecare vs. Best Buy service plan

Specifically, do either cover a broken screen from a drop (I doubt it)? I'm usually REALLY good with my electronics, but you know that stuff like this happens from time to time beyond your control.

Thoughts?

AppleCare will not cover user damage. If BestBuy has a replacement plan then that would be what you're looking for. Many of us opted for SquareTrade's warranty which includes damage.

I bought a WIFI model from Best Buy. The Extended Warranty is $259.00. That is a little steep IMHO.

One year coverage is $169.00

And they cover anything for a year.

I can transfer the coverage too.

22% is a lot but for a first generation device and one that is like the iPAD I thought it worth it.

Ah nice! I hadn't heard of that one before, but it sounds promising. Might have to go for that one instead.

I know that when I had a laptop from BBuy with their plan, I was without a laptop TWICE for a month when I had to send it in for issues. Not exactly fun.

I have squaretrade for my iphone and ipad. Haven't needed to use it yet (knock on wood) but they're AM Best rated and are backed by a reputable insurance carrier. If you're interested, pm me your email address and I can send you a referral thing with a 20% coupon for you and i get like $5 or something.

My total came to like $90 for two years of coverage. Totally worth it in my opinion. Covers spills, breaks, cracks, anything. not bad for 12 cents per day
