Howdy!
I bought the first intel iMac i could get my hands on when they came out a year ago, and its been great. But just recently, i started noticing a bit of a weird noise, that lasts for about 10 minutes or so after i wake it from sleep, and then dies away. And i feel like its been gradually getting louder over the past couple weeks.
Its a pretty faint repeating squeak. The noise definitely sounds like its coming from something that's spinning, and the frequency is about 6 times a second. My first guess was maybe the hard drive, but that would be spinning about 10 times faster, and this sound doesn't seem to be affected by disk activity (although i don't really know much about hard drives, do they spin up faster when their being used). So I'm guessing this might be a fan or something.
Now that doesn't sound like something nearly as worrisome as a squeaking hard drive, but its still a little annoying, especially since it seems to be getting worse. Do you ladies and gents think it would be worth getting checked out? No apple stores in my parts, but there's an authorized service provider just around the corner.
This thing is still within its first year Apple Care coverage, although just barely. Should I get the full coverage? And do you think Apple Care could actually do anything for me? Or would they be like, "Stop complaining and come back when something's actually broken!"
