Is this level of white color shift acceptable on a 2019 5k iMac?
I could no longer wait for the refresh as I needed a new Mac for work and picked up a refurbished 2019 i9.
I didn’t go looking for this issue, and was not even aware of these kinds of issues until a few days ago. My last Mac was pre-Retina and pre-IPS so I have no idea what is currently in an acceptable range. To me this screen looks substantially warmer (pink/orange) and a bit cloudier/duller on the left and cooler (blue-ish) towards the right. (edit: when viewing white/light gray colours). It’s somewhat dependent on viewing angle but the “sweet spot” is in the top left corner, not really feasible for me to reposition myself.
Is this within reason? Should I just try to get used to it? I feel like normally I would exchange it, but with the current situation with these iMacs being out of stock and a refresh on the horizon, I’m not sure what the best move is. Do I return it for a refund and wait for the rumoured refresh? Do I try to get it serviced under AppleCare? Realistically it will probably get replaced with Apple Silicon within two years, so may be worth just hanging in there until then? On the one hand, I love everything else about this computer, on the other hand it’s quite a drastic (to my eyes) shift in color temperature.
What a weird issue, really blindsided me. I did not expect this on a top of the line iMac.
I’ve found lots of threads about similar issues with MacBooks and some with the LG 5K (which I think is based around a similar part?) but not so much with iMacs. What’s my likelihood of getting a better screen on another 27"?
