I just skinned my 11" in icarbon white. Looks amazing. I did my 13" MBA in black

Pictures if you can, please!

Anyone else who would like to have a WHITE MacBook Air? Is there any chance that Apple will make a white model? (And, also, some will like for instance a blue one, or another color?)

Interesting question, Morten. I have never thought of it. I'm afraid it would feel more fragile to use and it would have a less professional look as well. Only the lowest-end MacBooks come in white polycarbonate, and someone who has bought an Air would probably not like his high-end Mac to be associated with the plastic-models. I know it sounds elitistic to say this, but that's an obvious side of it anyway.

All of these people who say that color would devalue the Apple Brand are in my view incorrect, just look at the iBook G3 Clamshell and iMac G3. Those were pretty colorful machines, and Id welcome a White MacBook Air... It would go so much better with my White iMac and White MacBook then.

A black aluminium MBA would be awesome. A white one? Not so much IMHO.

You can get any Apple product in any mix of colours you damn well like at ColorWare though.

Here's some pics of my icarbons skinned 11" and its evil 13" twin

Looks good! I'm going to go with black icarbons when the 2011 MBA gets released. I saw the phantomskinz, but they want $80 for the whole kit.

The whole point of not giving you more color options is that Apple force the market to dress up their products.

Look at iPhone, how many types of cases you can get? When the MBP and MBA are popular enough many manufacturers will come out with cases or skinning.

On the other hand, if you have colors on your MBP or MBA, and you want to sell it. The buyers will go "damn this is THE spec I want but I'm not getting yet another black laptop damn it!". Even if it's just black and white. Color preferences will affect at least a little on the sales of the 2nd hand market. :D

Skinning or thin cases perhaps still the best way to go and you can always change it when you change your mind after some time, and they'll protect your laptop at the same time.;)

PS: If I sound ignorant, I most probably is.

I couldn't agree with you more. I honestly think the color options + reselling would screw us over. I would HATE for there to be color options, I'd rather there just be one good looking model for each of Apple's devices. For example: all of Apple's current computers.

This. A lot of people talk about wanting multiple colors; I love differentiating as much as the next guy, however on a practical level it wouldn't really work out. Taking the manufacturing costs out of it, you'll have a widely fragmented market when people start selling them. Finding a good machine is hard enough; finding a good "red, blue, or yellow" one would be even harder.

OF course, there's that one site that paints the machine for you but that's a few hundred on top of the machine. I wouldn't mind having a Black Macbook Air; I have the black Macbook right now and love it.

On top of it extra cost mentioned, Apple ain't no taking risk of complains from customers accusing Apple's bad quality paint job when their laptops started to see colors fading off.

Not to mention selling a Macbook with faded colors or obvious scratches!

That's what Apple intended to do so - do it at your own risk and don't complain to Apple when the colors faded...:D

Anodizing

Just a quick note, I'm new here but have some experience in anodizing from the high end paintball market, where multi color and fade anodizing is commonplace, white anodizing is really not an option. White anno is basically a clear process, but does not make the aluminum white. Just clear. Which is how they look now.

When anodizing is scratched, it will reveal the color or the metal below. So as cool as a black Air would look out of the box, it would very soon tarnish and be silver again especially on the front edge of the palm rests. Very un-Apple.

Powder coating is another matter, and had been mentioned in respect to the Black Air. Powder coating is as it sounds, an additive process, where an extra layer is applied over the aluminum, but it is difficult to apply without causing any sharp detail in a design to be - well filled, it looks kind of muffled. It adds weight and also chips away, in a very ugly way.

I can't see an easy way for Apple to offer coloured unibody airs, but if anyone can find a way, it'll be them!

Was the iCarbons hard to put on? Yours looks done professionally.

Thanks! They are really easy to put on and I put them on myself. Watched the video but you don't really need to do that so much but does help a bit. The nice thing is that when you stick it on, as long as you leave an edge to pull up on you can pull it off and restick as many times as you want. Bubbles are super easy to brush out, nothing like those clear plastic films.

If I can do it, anyone can. I have little patience and I always ended up with bubbles on those clear plastic screen protectors (that I don't use anymore!).

pfff,.. sticking such a sticker on your macbook air just is a crime.
I would just get a nice sleeve.

And if I would really want to make it another color I would get it completely apart and powder coat it white or black :)

Ya know, it's funny watching people spend money on these iStickers.

Fake carbon fibre looks really lame but if it's you're thing, why not just go to your local sign shop, tell them you want a piece of Faux Carbon fiber vinyl (which is what those iskins basically are).

They'll either give it to you for free or charge you a couple dollars.

A vinyl shop is 100,000x better than iCraps. You'll get 10,000x the choice of color and pattern.

To each his own....but what's really lame is you. Who the hell cares what people spend their money on.

Did you read the post I quoted? However I was judgmental, I also believed that it was justified calling him out on that comment.

Was his/my comment justified? That's the question.

If someone comes to a thread post just to come and state that what someone spend their money on is stupid and it looks like crap, then I would say they are lame for doing that. Not sure why that offends *you* or what your problem is. I certainly don't go following people around that post pics of their setup and say it looks like **** and laugh at what they choose to do with their money. I do realize that that sort of thing can be fun though, but if you choose to do it then you certainly better be ready for comments in return.

I think you quoted the wrong person in stating that. Shouldn't you have addressed that to the person who actually started this? Who made the rash comment?

It seems like you're jumping on me for calling another out FOR being harsh for no reason; I think you need to re-think your logic here.

I stated it's lame which is purely my opinion. I was just pointing out that you can get the same thing for a lot cheaper.

EDIT: I just checked what these things sell for. I should just start making and selling these things :p

Well they may be lame but the Starbucks baristas love them, and that's what counts. They give out free lapdances just to look at my faux carbon sticker! I just put them on for the added attention when I pull out my MacbookAir.
