I am not sure if this has been talked about in previous posts bc i could not find it.

I just noticed the MacBook we got the other day has a noise it makes when the MagSafe power adapter is plugged in. THere is a rather loud "buzzing" noise the Macbook makes when it is plugged in right by the left side magnetic attachment, but more disturbing is the Adapter that is connected to the wall socket makes a even LOUDER buzzing noise. I am a little conserned that A) somethign is wrong wiht the computer/adapter. ( i really hope its just the adapter) but B) the adpater might light my apartment on fire if I'm not there.

What is someone to do, has this been talked about resolved with previous users experiencing this problem? Please help, i dont know what to do here.

Never heard of that one. Sounds like the AC adapter, probably worth taking it into an AppleStore to have it checked. Does it happen with every power socket you plug it into? If so, then you have a good case of getting a new AC Adapter.

yes it does happen with every socket.

it just makes a loud buzz noise from the magsafe on the macbook, and an even louder noise on the wall adapter.

My power adapter brick makes a hissing sound. It's rather loud when you have your ear up against it. However, it doesn't seem like anything is wrong, so I'm not to worried.

my brick is silent, but the magsafe does buzz/hiss a bit
It actually sounds lik ethe energy is being sucked from the magsafe into the computer hahahaha

I think that is normal.

This just started happening to my adapter tonight, and it's totally NOT normal.

This is way too loud to be just a regular adapter noise.

OP, does your adapter heat up?

Mine does this too.....I just got it today....I was hoping that it was not the infamous whining sound.

Mine has done it a few times in the past 2 1/2 months -- not too often, but annoying when it does. I always assumed that it was the same as the whine.

Mine was fine for two weeks, and then tonight it just started for the first time.

It will only do it if the battery is less than, say, 50% full. Once it charges beyond that, it's quiet again.

My buzz is only from the brick; the laptop itself is (thankfully) behaving (knock on wood).

••• Can anyone else with the problem answer my question: does the brick get hotter than normal when its buzzing? •••

Mine seems to, but on the other hand, I never paid much attention to how hot it got when it WASN'T buzzing, so I can't be sure...

I just checked my Mac Mini G4's power brick, and it makes the same buzzing/fizzing sounds that my Macbook's adapter does, just a bit quieter. I bought the Mini the day they came out, so I'd imagine the noise isn't a problem unless it gets noticeably/annoyingly loud.

My first Macbook's power adapter had this, the replacement model doesn't. For the whine coming from the laptop itself, I was able to silence it using ShhMBP. Beware: this may decrease your battery time.
