I've had my White Macbook for 7-8 months and its been great. However, I noticed last night that there is a slight stain appearing on the trackpad button, obviously I always click in the same place.

Its not much, quite faint, but I don't want it getting any worse. Any ideas how you can clean these or any solutions that help remove the stain etc?

Thx

I've got the same thing happening on mine (bought June 06). I'm going to get AppleCare on the case (no pun intended:))

^ Actually I have a similar with my black macbook. (and I have apple care)

It has just been up for repair for a dead HDD & logic board failure.

I also reported similar to the OP staining of the case & trackpad (+ button)

The repair centre replaced the HDD & Logicboard, but compared the ware of the case to others and said it appeared to be normal ware and tare for these macbooks and would not replace the case.

:( To say my macbook only got light use is an understatement, so when it startled to look icky - I thought especially considering what I have read on here, they would replace the case & trackpad. Looks like I thought wrong and so my 'repaired' macbook is on its way back to me as I type, with its still icky looking case in-tact. :(

If I'm not mistaken, Apple has only admitted to issues with the White Macbook and staining.

Just being honest here, but I think apple has messed up on this one. It's kind of like the glossy screen, they say its an upgrade but you know it's cheaper for them to manufacture it. I may be completely off base but I think that the same cost saving is what caused this problem with the staining.

hey guys,
I had the stain problem too. I'm happy to say that it comes right off with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser...give it a try, i'm pretty sure it'll work for you too, and no it does not damage the surface at all.

Mix a bit of bleach and water (read the bottle and mix it per the instructions, it's a pretty small amount of bleach for a good amount of water), get a cotton ball and dip it in the solution and wipe the area. It worked on mine. I wouldn't use it on the keys though, I don't know if bleach can remove the letters or not.

I, too, have a macbook that is staining, albeit a very small patch, but it is a BLACK macbook, not white. Good to hear other black owners having the problem too.

I began noticing staining about a week ago. I've used Mr. Clean Magic Erase and it removed maybe 50% of the staining.

I bought my Macbook last July. I'm thinking on not complaining, as I've used it enough in the last 8 months to know that staining is probably is going to be unavoidable, regardless of laptop brand. Unless it gets worse within another month or two, I'm just going to deal with the staining myself.
