I have a 24 inch iMac that I bought in April of 2008 as a refurb from the Apple store. It's the 2.8ghz with the 500 gig hard drive and the machine is not booting past a white screen.. I've read through several posts at various places, but seems a lot like the problem people were having with the older white imacs and bad logic boards.
I was getting an occasional lock up with the machine, from time to time that would require a hard boot. Well a week or so ago I left the machine on over night came back the next day and it was off. I tried to power it up and it just goes to a white screen with out the Apple logo.
I've read around the net and it appears this was a common problem with the white imac's and wondering if others have heard much of the same with the aluminum imacs?
I've tried various different things I've read on the net but nothing seems to wake it up. I tried inserting the boot disk but it still goes to the white screen and doesn't seem to notice the install disk. (I now can't eject the disk either)
I'm wondering if any other have seen or heard of this problem and if it's likely a bad logic board? This is my first Apple, and I must admit I will not be very happy and likely never buy another if it's a $800 to $1k repair because the machine is 6 months out of warranty due to faulty hardware.
Has anyone heard of Apple fixing these things after warranty running out?
