Ok so this has probably been asked many times but I found nothing. Anyways so I turn on my computer today and the white screen comes on and does not go away. It has been like that for 30 minutes now. I have taken out the battery and that didnt work. Any suggestions?

And describe the situation in more detail as well. Is this after a cold boot or after waking from sleep? What exactly do you mean by "white screen"? I've never seen a white screen as part of the startup process. Is it all perfectly white, or is it grey? Are there any graphics on screen at all? Is it in a window or edge to edge? Did you have any startup programs running? Did anything change from the last time you started up without a problem? Is this the first time this has ever happened? Etc. etc. etc.

I'm using 10.4.6 and starting up from shut down takes you to a white screen with Apple logo and then to a blue screen(this is also true for Panther)

have you tried booting it from a cd or in safe mode that should give you some idea. put the install disk in first, then boot up while pressing C, when it starts up(might take a while, be patient) find an option to go to Disk utility in the top menu, then verify/repair disk permissions and disk. then try booting it up again.

I have a PowerBook and the latest version of OSX. This is booting from a cold start. It was never on.

The white screen is the apple logo and the spinning thing. It just stays there. Ill try booting in safe mood.

As in, you bought a brand new Mac and the first time you tried to turn it on it didn't boot up properly?

No as in I turned it off, went home, and turned it back on and the white screen just stayed there.

I tried in safe mode and it looks like it doesnt even recognize there is a hard drive. I couldnt use disk utility and when I was going through the setup of 10.4 it said select where to install and it didnt show my hard drive.
