Got my macbook air 10 days ago. Since the day I got it I have noticed that it attracts lots of fingerprints, grease on the keyboard, and dust; and if I try to wipe them they will create smudges all over the screen. Then I brought it to my local apple store. An employee cleaned my screen and recommended "Whoosh!" which is a cleaning tool they use.

My mac's screen was quite dirty today so I decided to try the recommended cleaning tool but it made the smudges look a lot worse... and they are driving me nuts.

I just want to know how to get rid of them and if most people have this problem with their M1 macbook air or retina screen. Also should I return it if it is not a common problem? I will appreciate any input.

(Cross-posted on apple community where someone suggested that I return it)

I use a slightly (and I stress, slightly) damp microfibre, then dry with another very clean and dry microfibre cloth.
Microfibre cloths get dirty relatively quickly with use, and at that point all they do is to spread the dirt along the screen.
Use clean cloths.

EDIT: by the way, damp with water. Only water. You should never use any product for cleaning.

There is nothing wrong with your screen. No need to return it.

I agree with @Wando64 Even if the Apple employee suggested using Whoosh, that isn't documented as being advised by Apple. You don't want problems down the road.

When you close your Mac, use the white insert that came with the Mac (that was on top of the keyboard when you opened the Mac). If you no longer have that, use a clean sheet of computer paper. Make sure to label the side that touches the screen and make sure you don't get finger oils etc. on that side. You can also use a silicone keyboard cover in addition to the sheet of paper.

Unless you have to close the screen for transportation, I suggest keeping it open. That way, you don't get fingerprints on the screen. I use a very soft feather duster to gently wipe my screen every few days.
