On my iPhone 15 Pro Max, having run no betas on the device, I have upgraded to the release of iOS 18, however, none of the app icons are in dark mode, despite my system settings being "dark mode" (not automatic).

Oddly, my wife's phone IS showing dark mode app icons, with the same system settings. iPhone 15 Pro, not Max, and no betas.

Is it just me? I've tried checking random settings, restarting, but, something is escaping me as to why this is not working...

You have to hold down in the screen until it goes into wiggle mode and then there’s a edit button on the top left, hit that and click customize and you’ll see the option pop up to select which mode you want your icons.

Thanks - there must be some setting somewhere. Frustrating!
Just because you enabled dark mode in the setting doesn’t mean you icons will be dark mode. You have to change that too but holding down on your screen and going to edit in the top left corner and then clicking customize. From there you can set them to dark mode.

However, I would like to have Dark mode and Light icons, but in this case when you go to Settings the applications's icons are still dark. Seems like a bug to me.

I'm an idiot and should have explored more. Thank you very much.

That is precisely what was throwing me off. In the Settings app, all of the icons are Dark Mode app icons, for all settings, and all apps under the new Apps area.

However, it's still peculiar that my wife's phone defaulted to having dark mode app icons, when she's done nothing different with her display settings - something must have worked differently on our two devices for some reason.

All good now, thankfully.
