In the book world, there are the BIG 6 Publishers. (together with about 70% of the book market)

It really depends what discipline you're talking about..

The biggest supplier of software is the entire world.

The biggest supplier of software is the entire world.

I'm talking about the creators/suppliers of apps.

For music, it's the 4 major labels.
For books, it's the 6 big publishers.
For movies/television, it's the 6 big Hollywood studios.

What about apps?

Microsoft perhaps, since it supplies MS Office, which is widely used.
But then again, as MorphingDragon pointed out, it depends on the discipline you talk about, as software is much more diverse than books, music and films.

Adobe probably can be seen as a major player too, due to Flash and Adobe Reader.
