Does anyone know whether the data service for the 3G iPad will be charged through Apple/iTunes (like apps and music now), or separately through AT&T (not sure if anyone has mentioned a separate service signup)?

I'm getting a iPad through work, and if I'm going to have to submit my itunes receipt every month (for reimbursement) for my 3G service, I'll just get a wifi model now and use my verizon mifi...

Is there a link somewhere that says this?

The 3G service is prepaid. This is from the Apple site:

Easy sign-up.
You sign up for 3G service right on your iPad. And you can monitor your data usage and change your plan at any time, including switching to unlimited data or canceling 3G service if you know you won't need it. Learn more about iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G

and on the linked page it provides this graphic:

There is where you put in your card information.

Why would it be different than like, an iPhone? AT&T bills you for the iPhone. You give AT&T your credit card number and they bill you for a month or months of iPad service. You can do just a month or 12 months. You can quit any time you want and the service will end at the 30 day service anniversary.

Wait so if you pay $15 and then go over the 250MB , you have to pay $30 if you want to continue using it? I thought they would just charge you $15 more.

Correction to my original post: It will allow you to top up with 250 or go unlimited. See the graphic below.

I thought if you go over then they automatically put you in the "unlimited" plan and charge your $30.

No, this is a prepay service based on authorizations. If you authorize 250MB then that is exactly what you will get. It will rebill when the next month starts. If you run out it will terminate service until you tell it what to do. If you go to the link on my post above you will see that it keeps a tally of how much data you have used.

You can add 250 or go unlimited to continue:

I fully explain how the AT&T 250MB and Unlimited plans work in this message:

I'm not typing that all over again! :)

But I will repeat, AT&T's new method of buying data on a mobile device is revolutionary! AND it is very reasonably priced! I am STUNNED that it is such a good deal. I'll absolutely use less than 250MB per month. $15 per month is chump change! Those outrageously priced portable WiFi hotspot plans are $60! Yowser!
