Hi everyone;

Is there an actual person at apple I can send an email or actual letter to?

I bought my Mac Mini M1 back in April 2021 and everything has been fine up until recently.

Bacck in October, I decided to shut down the Mac by holding down the power button, which should be no problem. The next morning, I went to turn it on and absolutely nothing.

Got in touch with a local person and turned out to be an issue with the logic board. $350 later it was repaired.

This is absurd as a desktop computer should last longer than this. It now reboots on a regular bsasis.

Who can I write to to express my displeasure as I certainly don't have the money for a new one

Nobody.

They don’t want to hear from customers who are upset because you don’t matter. Apple is a massive company and you are a relatively small nobody, so they can obfuscate and delay or ignore you until you give up.

That’s my experience with them being a customer of extremely expensive Apple machines.

They'll probably tell you that you're shutting it down wrong, which may or may not have contributed to the issues you're having. You should be going to Apple menu > Shut Down to shut it down safely.

Holding the power button should only be used when the Mac is unresponsive. It's the equivalent of pulling the plug and losing unsaved data.

Tim Cook's public email address is tcook @ apple (dot) com, though whether he reads every single email or if he has assistants sorting it for him is something no one outside Apple knows. :apple:

This was what I was going to suggest. The chances of him actually reading the e-mail are very low, but since this is just an exercise in venting anyway (which I'm not knocking - if it makes you feel better, great!), I'd say go straight to the top.

Why write if the letter will be ignored or just banned? Call the hotline, explain the situation, ask for the necessary contacts or ask the manager to contact the management of the repair department. Yeah, well, you should have plenty of time to spare. These conversations usually take 1-2 hours. They just like to play dumb and pretend they don't understand the situation.

That goes nowhere, it doesn't bounce back but it just goes into the abyss. Most of the people you call at Apple don't really know what is happening, only when you get the more senior people do you get proper responses, which are often completely the opposite of what the first level folk say. Exercise in frustration.

That's kind of my point. This is an out of warranty machine that broke. Earlier than expected sure, but there's no reasonable expectation for anything to be done about it. So if the OP wants to vent, fire off an e-mail and be done with it. If it's gonna be ignored/unread anyway, might as well be ignored/unread from the head honcho. :)

I mean you are well out of warranty. It sucks but things fail sometimes, especially years later. I woulda saved that $350 and bought an on sale new Mac mini with it for $499.

How many shares of stock do you own? If you own at least 5% of the company I pretty much guarantee Tim will make an appointment for you. Warren Buffet is dumping Apple shares, if he mentions that this is because his Mac died young I'm sure Tim will appear very quickly with a new one and an apology.

More seriously, as feature size on the chips gets ever smaller atomic diffusion will make their lifetimes ever shorter even without leaking capacitors. It's simple physics. There are Apple II computers and original IBM PCs that still work, I doubt any of these M-series chips will still work after fifty years.

I don't know who you mean with local person?
a) A local repair shop or
b) a local Apple store?

If after repair it reboots on a regular basis then it was not repaired properly.

In the case of:
a) you should express your displeasure to the 'local person' who repaired it, because he/she did not repair it correctly. Doesn't the 'local person' have a warranty on the repair? He/she better has for $350 bucks.

or

b) you should express your displeasure to the Apple store to explain that the reparation was not properly done and see that they fix it. They will most certainly honor that because you paid $350 bucks.

In both cases IMO it seems pointless to write to some unknown anonymous person at Apple corp (unless you want to vent). But if you did not have your Mac mini repaired by Apple there is nothing they can do about it.

It seems more fruitful to get directly in contact with the person/store/shop who repaired your computer and firmly express your displeasure there about the situation.

I wrote two letters and in both cases received a reply. One in my favor, and one not, but they responded both times.

Apple Inc.
Attn: Tim Cook
1 Apple Park Way
Cupertino, CA 95014

I sent a registered letter with a return receipt.

I wouldn’t bother. You only have a one year warranty. Unless your credit card has electronics insurance like I do . It only has an additional year. It’s unfortunate what happened to you and I would be upset also. I’ve had a few electronic purchases that’s were defective out of the box and I got offered a refurbished phone from both apple and google. These companies really don’t care after the warranty period has expired.

I have gotten a call from senior support manager after I emailed Tim Cook’s public address. I had a genuine issue which was Apples fault. They fixed it, sent me Apple T shirt and a coffee jar, along with a new computer.
Not sure having a local person repair will get a reply unless it’s Apple or Apple certified repair.

Evidently trying to purchase AUD$15,000 worth of MPX modules and getting stuffed around by Apple support people isn't worth of reply. My issue was also Apple's fault entirely and they refused to own it and just eventually shrugged their shoulders and said no, we don't have the cards now and too bad for you, order cancelled. That after telling me "I'd definitely get the cards" for months.

I guess they didn’t sell and were under no obligation. But nonetheless a bad move on part of Apple after telling you it’s comming. For me, both times I wrote to Tim Cook I had some one call. I don’t do drama in email, just stick to facts and take emotion out.
