Who designed this lovely Mac?

I saw this on Apple Insider, and it's one of the most lovely designs I've seen.

Apparently it came from a MR member - which thread was it?

And that keyboard... it bears a striking resemblance of this.

I like the "bezel-less" design very much. If these things are ever sold AND some people prefer to have a bezel, then by that time there will be plenty of additions from 3-rd party manufacturers, such as Be(ze)lkin.

Nah this is a better design. Separates touching and looking. The keyboard is cool, there's no cable ports and only one pic not 2345 pics!

I agree the lack of clicky action could be a problem on the keyboard, but it could be good for these who don't type much (film editors, artists, kids, etc)

It reminded me a bit of the Optimus Maxlmus keyboard (the one with LCDs in each key)

It could have a tough wipeclean or ultrasonic selfcleaning surface, as its primary function is for touching, not looking at.

Thats cool. It's like a design I had thought of (but never mocked up), or at leaste the keyboard, where you would have a touch screen. I think the beveless screen is an interesting idea, but those rounded corderns are a bit much- cuts too much off.

I just read somewhere that they are trying out a new tech for touchscreen mobiles where the mobile vibrates a little bit when you touch the screen. If true, that degree of tactile feedback would go a long way towards meeting my problems with touchscreen keyboards or this design mockup.

Doesn't bother me. And my powerbook screen has rounded corners too. The top two corners on the menu bar are rounded. I love it. It's one of the first things I noticed when I brought my PB. Ok so when in films/games, my screen goes to fully square corners, but it wouldn't bother me if they stayed rounded. It's only a few pixels out of 2 million.

I like your new iMac design - very Zune-like. How many hours did you spend on designing it and what software did you use?

The reflections and highlights are good, but the background looks rather fake.

bezels exist for a reason. it's to give you evenness and symmetry around the display and to block out what's around it so that you can actually focus on what's on the screen. because what is behind your screen is rarely the same all the way around and after about 2 minutes of your environment blending in with what you have on screen you'd be on your knees begging for a bezel, even a small one.

I agree, the keyboard would most likely be impractical and hard to use. But quite an interesting idea.

Yea...I think its ugly. I like screens with a thin bezel, can't stand thick ones.

Plus, sorry, but it's not any design creativity. It's taking an existing iMac and wireless keyboard and photoshopping the entire front bezel out into a screen and the keyboard into another screen. That's as creative as taking a photograph of your room, photoshopping a wall into a giant display of a freeze-frame from Lost, and proclaiming yourself an inventive TV designer. Or photoshopping out the stand and proclaiming yourself a genius for having designed an anti-gravity computer.

At least with some of the other designs that use technology that isn't feasible today, there's also some thought about design concepts.

I'd like it with a very thin bezel added. And perhaps some kind of haptic feedback on the keyboard (I sure hope it's in iPhone as well!)

Very different things. In the PowerBook (or any Mac), the screen is rectangular, and the OS draws rounded corners at the top; but the pixels are still there (as you can see when displaying a Keynote, or anything fullsize). In this design, the screen itself has rounded edges... That's a lot more difficult (and useless), if you ask me. And the problem of making a borderless screen isn't any easier either.
