Maybe its me but I think older macs are better than new.
Who needs more than an 4mb ati rage and 128mb ram?

I mean look at the clamshell ibooks, and the G4 PM's, where did it all start going down hill? Those machines are great.

I'm certainly not upgrading to anything "new". crappy intel

Anyone here feel the same?

I can't say I agree with you. Sure, older computers are very capable of performing certain task efficiently but much of the software that is coming out need better system requirements. Not only that, but the amount of time that can be saved due to a better computer can greatly effect how people work and use their computers, which is important considering how central they are becoming in our lives.

Yeah!! I used to love the commercials they put out. You know, the ones where it sticks out the CD drive like it were a tongue.. :p

Hmmm... I don't know, 128 MB RAM sounds a bit excessive, do you really need that much RAM? What are you, some sort of rocket scientist?

i reckon a clamshell iBook with todays technology inside would be awesome. I still think thats the most distinctive design they have come up with for laptops. The iMac G4 kicks ass as well :p

If the current software you use is adequate for your needs and you have no need for new bells and whistles be it in the form of hardware or software then stick with your old mac. If you want to use most of any new software that comes out though then you need more current hardware to run it.

As far as style goes I definitely like some of the older macs over the current ones especially when it comes to the iMac. My G4 iMac is not going anywhere anytime soon, though I need more RAM in it.

Eeeh, I donnno.

I have fond memories of one Powerbook in particular (I bet you can guess) as well as the G4 Cube, but honestly as much as I think they are cool - and I think about getting one and tweaking it out all the way for fun - you just can't beat the new models.

I mean, the Macbook in black? Wicked.

Intel processing power? Wicked fast.

Still, I do feel less pressure to upgrade ATM. I know most entry model Mac's now have many fold more power than my Powerbook - but other than my weak battery life - I'm still quite happy using this one. It just makes my coffee breaks longer while it renders. :D

Well, if you have software that can get away with only using 128 mg of ram more power to you. I am a power user and the software I use requires a lot of ram, fast hardrives and as much HP as you can throw at it.
I happen to feel that the current crop of Apple laps is nothing short of amazing. A lot of us have waited a long time to get this kind of power out of a lap. Now I will say that the quad processor G5's were pretty sick. Of course the Intel Mac desktop machine will be pretty sick. Also the current 2ghz duo core Imac is the fastest Mac to date except for the previously mentioned quad processor machine.
Honestly for the average user computer progress could have stopped almost 5 years ago and people still would have been fine.
Power users(Graphics,Audio/Video) and gamers are really the only ones that need the constantly faster machines.

Neither can I. I love my Power Mac G5 and MacBook Pro (even if it is powered by "evil inside" ;) ). :)

Sure Apple has released some very awesome machines in the past, but so are the new ones. :)

Don't worry. In 10 years time we're going to look back at MacBook Pros and say "Wow, they really did ruin my fertility." Err... I mean, "Wow, they really were great.".

me too! i just got a mb but it would be awesome if they issue a clamshell shell+ intel+ modcons+ pink mb!!! woohoo this mb will be on ebay in no time if that happens. while i am wistfully thinking about it, can we add a dedicated graphics card to the clamshell se mb? i am still upset about this computer not being future game proof (ie no civ IV) but flash games are doing me fine.

hmm... being very uncomputery person, can you shove the whole mb into the clamshell (minus the screen? can you hack those to size?)

p.s. i am not going to do that, but i think that would be a very interesting project if i know anything about computers, have the money to buy an extra mb(p) and a clamshell and give it an extreme makeover. kinda like a victoria becks in colleen shell but the other way round you know what i mean (sorry my footie knowledge is based on aesthetics and thus beckham although aging, will always win against the (someone in star called him shrek) rooney)

The Barbie Macs? Didn't appeal to me at all. I suppose it depends on how old you are as well, and what sex. Obviously the multihued iBooks would have appealed more to the female contingent. As an almost-suit, I'd be laughed at with a machine like that.

Why buy a house, when a van is just as good? In fact, who needs a van? Use a tent! Wait, wait. No, live under a big tree. It will keep you dry.

Why would you want to reject advancements? Lap it up, I say!

Diablo II isn't running quite as well as I had hoped on my 667Ti Book, so... to the OP, I need more than those sys specs that you posted. A lot more.

I'm rocking Tiger on my (rather upgraded) old Power Mac 7600 and I love it.

Beige is Beautiful. :)

Then again, I have to be honest: most of my computer time is spent on a much more reasonable Power Mac G4. If all I had was the 7600, I'd be sad. :(

It's a great hobby computer though.

There are a lot of people on these forums that like a lot of older Macs. I still am particularly fond of the G4 case (the dark gray ones).

However, the case designs can't overcome the fact that the hardware they contain is very far outdated. For daily use, I'm on a 17" AlBook, even though I maintain a fleet of System 7 Macs, as well as several iMac G3s and my G4 tower.
