They could make the screen a bit bigger (with the phone itself having very similar dimensions), replace the HTC logo and buttons with a fingerprint sensor, include a 20-megapixel camera (but with good optics, unlike the M9's), the Snapdragon 820, and removable batteries/SD cards.

The M7 created buzz for HTC when they really needed it and they've yet to match that. Perhaps this (http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/18/htc-optical-zoom-2015/) could help?

HTC really needs to stop it with the dedicated HTC bar on their phones, it's just really sad now.

But if they could make something like this, at 5" screen with very minimal bezel, I would love to pick up something like that.

HTC already made an improved M7. It was called M8 and to some degree, Butterfly S, which was released between M7 and M8. Now if you mean having nearly the same design and size as M7 or One mini 2, I say why not? I loved that M7 design but it wasn't the most comfortable to hold and heated up quickly. I prefer One mini 2 for ergonomics and being narrower. Sense is very nice for a custom skin and better than Samsung's or LG's but stock Android is still the smoothest.

HTC is pretty much dead to me now. Probably deader than BlackBerry in my country. Why back an OEM with poor marketshare and is completely clueless in the budget level? Huawei have already reached the design level of HTC. They offer cheaper phones and have alot more money than HTC right now. M10 with a rehashed design from 2013 won't save HTC anymore. Time to move on. So many more brands which offer nicer phones at lower prices. HTC is no longer one of them.
HTC
- Terrible cameras
- Terrible battery life
- Terrible marketing
- Terrible customer service
- Terrible value and resell value

^ This one-trick pony with very little income in other venues is a brand you want to back? If you like throwing money away, you might as well p*ss it all away in gambling. Hoping for HTC to make a comeback is like wanting to get first-class tickets to the Titanic. HTC makes beautiful phones, no question on that. But they cater to Android fashionistas which isn't exactly a popular segment (less than 1% marketshare) when richer companies like Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Huawei, and LG can cater to them and many more demographics.

HTC's need to cram their logo on the front is what really ****s up their designs. They were quite close with the new A9 but decided that having a logo on the front and not using the space around the fingerprint reader plus selling a crappier but more expensive model in Europe really soured me on it. Putting your logo on the front so people don't mistake it for an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy really does mean your design might not be up to par.

I think the M7 design but with the HTC logo portion replaced with three capacitive buttons + fingerprint reader would be pretty great. Samsung gets it right with the Note series right now: minimal bezel and the usual buttons don't take any screen space.

Actually, I've never bought an HTC phone, but I do remember seeing an M7 at a store. I don't want them back for me, I want them back as a contender so that they can rival other OEMs and bring more competition to the high-end part of the industry.

a better place
The M7 was a flawed product. Great design for the most part but with poor build quality issues and so so camera.

The M8 was an improved M7, it didn't set the world alight.

The M9 was an improved M8 & M7, but still it failed to set the world alight. Swallowed up amidst the launch of the S6 / S6 Edge.

The M10 however will likely be an improved A9 .... and percentage chances are sadly for HTC it'll fail to set the world alight. However I actually hope the A9 and subsequent phones will stem the tide for them.

My favourite M7 photo from its ultrapixel 4mp camera ....

Here's what I want/expect:
5.2-5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display
Snapdragon 820
All-glass front
Fingerprint scanner
BoomSound on the top and bottom edges, similar to Xperia phones
No more damned front logo taking up bezel space
Some change to the enclosure
Same 'killer' camera as A9, but maybe dual lens.

I had no idea about the build quality issues. I would say that they wouldn't make the same mistake twice, but HTC is notorious for making them even thrice.

That sounds like the ideal HTC phone. Let's hope that's what they make!

It wasn't rigid enough my mini is cracked on the sides and the screen is starting to pull away from the bottom I'm hard on phones but this one cracked pretty quickly. I found an HTC double dip case for it on Amazon that will hopefully keep it together until February or so then I'll get something else.

Where are those early m9 renders?

Make that for their design and they'll sell. Bring camera up to par too plz. Less promises, more execution.

This is what the M9 should have been! They won't make it 5", thats what the A9 is for. But, anything less than 5.5" is fine with me.

YES! This! Put the fingerprint scanner on the back, or incorporate it in the screen somehow.

That's an idea. I think it's more likely to be on the front though, given the ones on the M9+ and the A9. Back should be fine though.

For a more practical form factor, I actually prefer the Motorola Moto X (2013) or Sony Xperia ZR (2013) over the HTC One M7. I only believe in metal when it comes to music. Not in our gadgets. They are smaller too and only had 720p screens. Soft touch that wouldn't dent or needs a case to protect it from harm like the M7 was prone to being so luxurious. Motorola and Sony should improve the innards to those 2013 smartphones and they will get my money before HTC. I think HTC screwed fans over with they removed micro-sd slot on the 2013 Best Smartphone but then added it again with the M8 and M9. The best smartphone from 2013 is my Mi 3, G2, or the Note 3. Not M7.
