Saw that the 24" - 3.06ghz is now only $2199 WITH new graphics card and 500mb. Type up my add so fast I think I broke a key on this crappy Dell keyboard at work. I loved my 24" 2.4ghz, but faster processor + faster graphics processor for not much more works for me.

I would if I had the money; did that last time with my dell laptop, got 2/3s of what I spent back after using it 7 months. No, this imac will be with me for a while.

In my case a processor bump from 2.4 to 2.8 and a slightly better graphics card isn't enough to pay extra to change, throw in the additional applecare and memory I'd have to buy again just isn't worth it in my opinion.

No desire to have the latest and greatest, my machine is solid enough to last a good few years yet.

I dunno i'm kinda torn i wasn't planning to buy anything till Montevina which i didn't think would debut till early 09 but now Apple has gotten the iMacs to Montevina which means these new models wont undergo significant changes for a while but rather simple 100MHz processor/gpu bumpsor something like that

My current iMac 20/2.4G is more than powerful but the resale value will plumet as time marches on. So i'm considering putting it up now, getting as much as possible for it and then just buy the new 20/2.6 that way i don't lose too much money

Then again is it worth it?. Sigh...what to do...what to do

If I had the money, I'd go for the high-end 20". That is a steal at $1499, but I would have to wait and see if they updated the screens or not. If so, I would really consider it.

But my 17" has been a great computer, and it more than perfect for my needs right now. We'll just have to wait and see.

But now I know what that feeling of "Why didn't I wait?" is like Of course, I'm glad I didn't wait because I've had six months with a fantastic iMac, but hey, this is how millions upon millions of Apple users have felt

If I had the money, I'd go for the high-end 20". That is a steal at $1499, but I would have to wait and see if they updated the screens or not. If so, I would really consider it.

If they're still using the TN panel in the 20", I think the refurb 24" 2.4 is probably an even better deal @ $1400 now. Most people, I think, won't get as much benefit out of an extra 266mhz as they would a larger, better quality LCD.

Unless you're in it for one of the Macs at the higher price points, I think this update leaves something to be desired. The 20" models didn't get nearly as good an update as the 24" did with the 8800gs option. I bought my 24" 2.4 refurb @ $1500 a month ago and thought I was going to be kicking myself and sticking it up on eBay, but now I know I made the right decision in not waiting (I needed the iMac anyway, someone broke into my apartment late last year and stole my early '06 white 20" iMac ). I think, unless you're willing to cough up 2k for the 24" w/ 8800gs, this update is pretty pointless, unless you have a really old Mac to upgrade or are a new customer, and you have a problem with refurbs. The refurbs are great though -- they essentially come to you like new, just in a brown box instead. I love mine; if Apple had shipped it to me in a retail box, I wouldn't have known the difference.

Although the revisions to the new iMacs are very nice they are hardly enough to get me as excited and worked up as you seem to be.

It's great to always buy the latest and greatest but that's also an expensive practice. This revision hardly obsoletes the original aluminum line (or even the white Intel iMacs that preceded it). I expect you will see minor performance increases at best over the mid-2007s. I await the coming benchmarks.

Good luck with your sale and new iMac purchase though.

I agree completely.

I just got my mid-2007 24" iMac back from Apple for a second LCD panel replacement. The original panel had a smudge on it and then the first replacement developed backlight flickering problems.

I don't know if Apple has changed the part but this latest replacement is the first one I've ever seen with ZERO gradient. It appears to have 100% even backlighting from left to right although I haven't done a luminance test and that's just eyeballing it. This panel also appears to have a much wider brightness range than my old one.

Your mileage may vary with refurbs but I gotta say the new lower price point for the 24" aluminum refurbs makes them an attractive deal indeed.

Yeah, I'd like to upgrade from my 20 inch 2.16 core 2 duo late 2006, but with 4 gigs of RAM, it's still a pretty fast machine for the modest things I do. I do enconde some video, but it seems fast enough for my needs.

The nVidia is not slightly better.
It simply kills the 2600.
The difference is really, really big and I'm telling this after all day of render tests and playing video games.

Although the HD2600 in my iMac is of course the HD2600XT Mobility part underclocked I've never tried clocking it to XT speeds (I don't even know if a utility exists to do so) and never had any problems with framerates in the few games I play.

Well, Apple shows a 2.2X increase for Quake 4 (as per the article). According to notebookcheck, the 8800m GTS comes in about twice the bench (regardless of the bench) of a stock 2600XT so I would say, overall, slightly more than twice the iMacs underclocked 2600XT.

I'm tempted, but I'm gonna hold off. I have to admit that I'm one of those "latest and greatest", and I held off for 3-4 months on buying a new iMac because I kept saying "they're gonna update it, they're gonna update it..." but they never did, so I bought one literally a month ago. Now I'm kicking myself for not waiting.

However, trying to start up your own company while unemployed kinda makes it difficult to throw cash around unnecessarily Maybe I'll cave in in a few months after I land some clients

Well, considering they didn't change a single thing in the physical appearance department for this revision I've at least still got that going for me with my mid-2007.
