They released first, the development machines, those were plain P4 PCs, at 3.6 GHz if memory serves well, that was on July 2005, On Jan 06 they released the first MacBook Pros with CD, and still sold PPC till they made the transition to the whole line. That was not that bad. Just because there is a new model does not mean that your computer instantaneously bricked itself and you have to thrown it out of the window. It does not matter which technology it is meanwhile it does what you need.
I have, besides my Macbook, 2 notebook PCs, one is a 4 years old 2.8 GHz P4, works perfectly and I can do everything I need, The other 2 are newer, but my trusty P4 still rocks.
