I have just received my physical apple card today by fedex it came from California it was shipped out wednesday morning and jus got like at 3:30pm today. and when I opened the cardboard package and the package that the card came in looks a little a different to the other ones, My said to open the wallet app then hold the phone up to the card. Looks like depending on what version iPhone you have the activation instructions are different if you have the a new iPhone then you just hold the phone up to the package, but with earlier version iPhones that are mostly touch ID the you have to open the wallet app and hit activate in the wallet app, then hold the phone up to it

I wonder if that depends on the phone from which you register, or whether Apple tracks what your most advanced phone is.

Would be an interesting experiment for someone who has both TouchID and FaceID phones to register for AppleCard.

It's detailed on the Apple website. iPhones X and before and Xs and after have different activation procedures and corresponding card carrier text.
