Wouldn't paint on aluminum get all chipped and crappy looking? Now on the ibooks, you can use vinyl dye and actually CHANGE the color of the plastic. That would be cool.
It's automobile-grade paint so I don't think it chips... but yeah I wouldn't paint it, I love the aluminum. But if I did, I like the Ferrari/Steel/Carbon colors. The other ones might get distracting. The iBook would probably look better, with its white keys... or you could get Smoke, and make your 15" look like an iBook. 
laptop = colorful.

they don't paint the entire notebook either so despite a nice quality paint, it looks poor with an unpainted keyboard and track pad.

Colorware actually has permission from Apple and the warranty isn't void. I guess they avoid painting the keys because it would cover up the letters.

Apple warranty IS voided out COMPLETELY and Apple NEVER gave them permission of any kind to color them and still have warranty.
The warranty is entirely voided out. The only warranty they have on them is by Colorware. So if you had a problem with the system, you must deal with Colorware. They do offer a ONE year extended warranty (2 year total) on the systems, however you wont be getting three years since you wont be able to get Applecare.

I have a 40 gb iPod that i sent in for ColorWar'ization. I got the midnight blue. I love it. Paint is still looking good after 12 months now. Pics to follow.
THE APPLE WARRENTY IS NOT VOIDED! I have spoken to my local "genious" and he said that it dosn't void the warrenty in any way. The only thing that apple won't cover is damage due to the painting. For instance if the painting processor f**ked up your HD, apple wouldn't cover it. But, if you HD just conked out by it self then apple will cover it. ColorWare did not get special permission from apple, but it still dosn't void your warrenty. In fact you can actually do what ever you want to your powerbook, and it dosn't void your warrenty, as long as w/e you did wasn't the cause of the problem. For instance if you totally took apart you PB, and replaced the HD and the Disc Drive, and then a month later you Apple branded RAM fried... apple would still cover it.

Uh, I really doubt that apple will cover your laptop if it was opened up by anyone else besides an apple certified technician. If you open up a powerbook or ibook to upgrade your hard drive which is not a "user-upgradeable part" and your logic board gets busted, I'm pretty certain that they will say "someone not authorized opened up the powerbook/ibook which caused the damage". Proof? Believe me, they will be able to tell if the powerbook/ibook was opened up.
I think it would be foolish to think otherwise.
have fun, but just be aware of what happens to your investment when unauthorized people do work. It's no different than installing an aftermarket stereo in a car under warranty, and then your temperature control/air conditioning system busts, they can easily say that there was a short in the car's electrical system due to the aftermarket parts and work. Be careful!

Chances are, if they can tell that you opened up the computer, then it's because you did do some damage to it. If you were careful, then they're legally bound to fix whatever "defects in materials or workmanship" were present. That's what small claims court is for, and usually the threat of it is enough.

Yeah I'd imagine there would be a sticker and/or if you upgrade an HDD for example, they would probably know the range of models they put in, and be aware it was user upgraded... And if you pass it off as you didn't upgrade it, and they find out, you are in deep s**t.kmarketing said:

Actually i spent less on my iPod than most spent on a ipod mini.
I got a "free" 20gb ipod from *********.com
went to the apple store and exchanged it for a 40gb model ($69) got apple care ($47). Mailed to to ColorwarePC for the painted (75 inc shipping).
Cost me about191 total for a custom 40gb ipod with 2 years of apple care

The iPod and the Xbox look rather awesome. I was hoping for some Powerbook pics in this thread though. I guess it's too rich for most people's blood. $400 is a lot.
