Who here is upset about the mac mini price increase?

I am. I don't have much to spend on a computer and was really hoping apple would contiunue to make a very low end mac mini. I have no use for airport, bluetooth, and front row, and it sucks that the price went up a whole $100! man, now i am not buying a mini, will probally just live with my beige g3 for a few more years. And intigrated grphix arn't that great, why could they just stick with AGP??? However, the 4 ports of built in USB are sure nice though.. Come on apple, introduce a really inexpensive consumer desktop

I saw this coming a long time ago. It's unfortunate that the price went up, but you ARE getting way more computer for your money. This brings up one of my pet peeves about computing. To buy a computer you have to settle for what they ( the manufacturer) want to give you. For example, the new Mini. Not all of us need all these features, and maybe some of us just want a basic computer. I would like more choice when it comes to how my computer is configured, as well as price adjustment to reflect my specific needs.

I was upset with the price increase and the integrated graphics, but I am still going to buy one eventually. I was more upset about the education discount only being $20. Wasn't it $30 on the ppc mini. Usually the edu discount is realative to the price point of the machine. The new mini went up in price but the edu discount got smaller? WTF?

I'm sure that many if not most Apple Stores still have an 'old' mini or two around, and I suspect they'll show up in the refurb section soon enough as well.

I do think it would have been nice to have kept the $499 price point, but this new edition does seem to be worth the $100 extra. I can't recall now, but were BT and AirPort standard on the last gen? If not, those are pretty useful additions, and, coupled with the speed increase and remote, justify the price to me.

I was upset at first too...which is why it took me 4 hours to order one rather than just grabbing one right away

Are you serious? For one thing of course there is more speed and more stuff included--that is the point of an update. It has been 5 months and technology moves fast. And secondly, 99% of the time technology gets cheaper, not more expensive. You usually don't expect computers to get more expensive as time goes by, they should get cheaper.

Now of course this is a special case because Apple is using totally different technology than they were before. But consumers don't care about that. They see the Mac mini--which used to be Apple's answer to the low-end Dell--getting more expensive. IMO, Apple shouldn't have released it at all if they couldn't keep the $500 price tag (which of course they could, they just didn't feel their already high profit margins were high enough )

Love the av jamdr, but my choice would have been Remain in Light.

Technology does get cheaper as manufacturers build computers to a price point. This may be a little more difficult in this transition due to the fact that there is no direct correlation between the PPC and Intel chips, so those price points need a little adjusting.

Of course, that low-end Dell really is a piece. You need to option up the hell out of it to make it worth anything at all. Plus, that 90 day warrantee stinks. Go cheap on service and support so that you can drop the price. Nice.

Yes, I'm very angry about what Apple's so-called "strategy" has done to their unit sales, revenues, profits, and stock price. Very, very angry.

It's not surprising that the prices went up, but I still think Apple should sell a $499 model. It doesn't need to have Airport Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0 built-in at that price in my opinion. Especially now that the user would have access to four USB 2.0 ports, that is plenty to work with.
