I just ordered mine here in Japan, but the apple store japan website says 2 days to ship and the email says i will get it from 28 to 30 oct. i must wait a week to receive it!!
I decided to order the cheapest model to replace my iPad. I have an iMac 27" i7 so I just want something light and small, the MBA 11.6" is just perfect. 64Gb SSD is small, but it is cheaper to get a mini flash memory or even a mini external hard drive than to pay $200 to get the 128Gb model.
I didnt know I wont be able to upgrade the ram, so I will stick to the 2gb model I bought and resell it if I find it too slow and get the 4gb model.

I Ordered a 13.3 1.86Ghz, 128GB, 4GB Ram. Wish they had done a stock model with 4GB, gonna be a long week.......
I am getting the 13.3" with everything I can add via BTO. I am getting the 11.6" MBA to "play" with and see if I like it. If the RAM is soldered to the board, I will buy it with everything too.
I am still waiting for the iFixIt.com information or someone to rip it apart and see what the deal is with the RAM. I originally thought it had 2 GB RAM soldered to the board, and maybe a RAM slot for the extra 2 GB RAM. However, I called Apple and they assured me it's soldered to the board if we upgrade to 4 GB RAM.
I just thought with "onboard" being listed it was just like old PowerBooks were with 512 MB RAM soldered to the board and one RAM slot for upgrading it. This makes sense especially with Apple.com stating "onboard" for 2 GB. Now, I don't totally trust the Apple sales reps, so I am not sure what to believe right now.
Until someone tears one apart, we are going to have to assume it probably is soldered to the board... disappointing, but it's only $100.
I had really just hoped that it might accept a full 4 GB RAM card if it did have one open slot. We will see shortly, as someone will rip their MBA apart to show it off.
In any case, I am ordering both... and I am going to try out the 11.6" MBA. I plan to give it to my son if I don't like it, which I am expecting.

During the keynote a slide showed the guts, I believe there is even a picture on the website (sorry, not sure where). In those pictures the RAM is definitely soldered to the board, and it doesn't appear to have a spot for more RAM. I would guess that they are just increasing the density of the RAM, and soldering it on. It's too bad really, but it makes sense because of the space it saves.
It will be interesting to see what kind of choices they made with this flash drive (with the big "flash" letters on it )

Was close to pulling the trigger on a 15.4 MBP HG/antiglare until I heard about "Back to the Mac" and I am glad I waited.
This will be my first Mac ever. I am absolutely THRILLED.
Ready to hand off my Dell Inspiron 15.4" 1440x900 LCD, which has served me incredible well the last 3 years.
I'm ready for my freshly carved serving of aluminum sweetness.
Was close to pulling the trigger on a 15.4 MBP HG/antiglare until I heard about "Back to the Mac" and I am glad I waited.
This will be my first Mac ever. I am absolutely THRILLED.

LOL. No he was definitely referring to the SSD "drive" vs. NAND Flash. The deal is the drive controllers used in SSDs are too slow and max out bandwidth slower than the NAND is capable of with direct access to the board.
I guarantee that it's more like 2X faster than the fastest SSDs Apple provides. In addition, it will get better with time. Drivers to update it will improve it beyond the initial offering just as the SSDs have improved, the GPUs have improved, and etc.
It is going to be amazing. I wish I could test it for someone, but I am going to be waiting a few days to order.
