I just got the iPad Pro 11-inch 2022 and it's my first Apple device that doesn't have a physical home button. So, natch, I went to power it down for the night and it wasn't happening, so instead of looking it up, I just did a quick press-and-release on the volume button closest to the power/sleep button, held down the power/sleep button, and got the "slide to power off." Who knew? Not I, clearly.

Apparently, the official method is to hold down the volume button closest to the sleep/wake and the sleep/wake at the same time (I looked it up after the fact), but sometimes, yaknow, you find another way. And if you're like me and power off your devices when you don't need to get up at o'dark hundred for work (it's my Saturday today), AND you really just want to use one hand to power down instead of two, well, then, there's this method.

So, to review this highly technical, classified information (and yes, my tongue is firmly embedded in my cheek):

One-handed power down on a "who needs a frickin' home button" devices: Press and release volume button closest to the sleep/wake button and then hold down the sleep/wake button all by its lonesome and you'll get the "slide to power off, dorkus" prompt.

I know this is going to change the lives of anyone who's either two lazy to raise their other hand to power down their device, or they have only one hand available (no need to explain), or they only have the one hand.

Or you have tiny little hands and pressing two buttons simultaneously with one hand is not happening.

I don't think I've ever purposefully actual power-offed my iPad ever since I bought it (excluding when it needs to restart for an update)...

What Apple labels sleep mode, I consider a normal power-off, it's just so snappy and quick !

You can also go to Settings > General, scroll to the bottom, and there’s a “Shut down” option! It’s been there for a couple iPad releases now, I think.

Does not appear to work on my test iPad 11 Pro (4th gen). It is running 17.1, so maybe that is the difference?
I have several iPad Pro 12s back in the office running 17.0.2, I'll check those in the morning.

Do your volume buttons work as expected? Volume up increases volume? Volume down decreases volume? Just curious if your up volume is continually sending "up" commands.

iPad Pro 11 (3rd Gen) running iPadOS 17.0.2.

press the volume up and power/sleep button simultaneously and hold until the Power Off slider appears. If you press both buttons simultaneously and quickly release, ipad does a screen capture. You can go to Settings, General and scroll to the bottom and click on Shut Down. Or ask Siri to Shut Down.
