I’ve finally got used to 18.1 , initially hated it , but I’m fine with now and got used to the photo changes , but seeing all the issues with 18.2 and the addition of Apple Intelligence which doesn’t interested me what’s so every , I’ve decided to skip out on it completely..

I’m guessing if I upgrade to any of the future iOS 18 updates il be forced into Apple Intelligence which I don’t even want on my phone so il probably be sticking for 18.1 for a long while lol

Anyone else skipping out on Apple Intelligence iOS 18.2 update ?

You realize iOS 18.1 included the initial wave of Apple Intelligence, right? It's already on your phone. Like someone mentioned previously, just don't enable it if you don't want to use it...

I wish I had skipped it; or at least deferred update for a long time. It seems to have somehow bricked my cellular network interface.

I skip all updates until the x.5 version of the release.. I am still on 17.7.2. Apple seems to take forever to fix bugs and battery issues, while advertising the next major release..

You don’t have to skip it. If you don’t like Apple Intelligence, just don’t enable it

I downloaded 18.2 as soon as it was available and immediately turned on apple intelligence.
I’d like to, if only it was available in EU 🤬
I really don’t get it: Siri and ChatGPT are already available in many European languages (all the major like German, French, Spanish and Italian). Why the delay ?????

This makes zero sense. Absolute zero sense. You can turn Apple Intelligence off. If you want to be left behind, go for it, but I don't think you'll have any support on doing so.

I'm out until about .5 or .6 or about WWDC. The old "wait for .2" no longer seems to apply. The new version of that is wait for about .5 or about WWDC. Else, thanks for being among the wide beta tester group.
Or even better: wait for iOS 19 to start complaining about how messed up iOS 19 is, and how good iOS 18 was (in the meanwhile people like you had iOS 18.5 installed and running just fine) 😏

I’m really wondering why customers like you still are Apple users…

You don’t even have to be bothered turning it off: just don’t use it if you don’t like 🤷🏻‍♂️
Apple Intelligence isn’t taking control of your phone.

People like me prefer Apple tech… but as close as we can get to “just works” Apple. People like me need reliability as we depend on our tech to work well. People like me make our livings using tools like Apple tech, and that is endangered if we upgrade too soon and crash into bugs that impact our productivity.

So we wait awhile before upgrading to be sure that when we do, our key tools will work just fine for what we need them to do. There is zero harm to Apple or people like you if we delay upgrades until we have more confidence that enough of an OS is fine. So what’s it to people like you? Our “when” choices do no harm at all to you or Apple. I’d think people like you could understand that.

Quote me just ONE bug that impact productivity in iOS 18.2

Every release comes with a great abundance of people either confirming fixes to various bugs or confirming the bugs persist (and/or identifying new bugs). Eventually, the majors seem to be addressed. Based on last few years, that seems to be about the .5 release or so... which hits around WWDC time. There is no hard science to it. Even at .7, there is some "leap of faith" involved... just less of it because there's typically been months and multiple point upgrades to hopefully address the majors.

I am still on 18.1.1. Solid battery, no lagging and no (major) bugs. I installed on my iPhone and iPad mini. The worst experience is when occasionally, the phone was warm (never happened in iPad). I disabled Apple Intelligence as I already subscribed ChatGPT and don’t see much value integrating it to iOS.

People like me need apple tech to do their job. And new features on newly released software helps me do that.

Never have I ever been unable to complete a task due to “bugs” that impacted our product.

So to be more productive and keep us safe we upgrade our software regularly. There is zero harm to me if people like you delay upgrading; you’re only hurting yourself. I think people like you could understand that.

I'm not the one challenging the other about any of that. If you and Dutch, etc want to upgrade immediately, good for you. I take no offense or see nothing wrong with any of us upgrading to anything at any time. And I'm not directing or encouraging others to do it my way and only my way either- just sharing how I deal with upgrading OS upgrades MYSELF in response to the subject of this thread: "Who's skipping" which naturally leads to "and why." I shared my "why" and it's completely my business if I wish to do it my way vs. your way.

I'm glad that it all "just works" for you and Dutch, etc. I wish I had the same confidence to embrace it and have the exact same apparently-perfect experience with all things. I presume all these other threads all over this website and elsewhere talking about latest OS bugs are also just a bunch of unlucky people somehow at fault for upgrades to their iDevices & Macs having issues too. Or perhaps they are all just lying about bugs they aren't actually experiencing for some unknown reason. Perhaps my approach is fueled by only a vast pile of lies about many trying to deal with OS bugs not actually bugs?

Or perhaps there are bugs and those of us cautious about "when" await seeing more posts about bug resolutions before joining the "now this doesn't work for me" party too. My approach has worked fine for me for years and years. I'm glad your approach works fine for you.

I’m taking some “precautions” anyway, like waiting a few days before upgrading just to see if the update caused some problems

Good for you. It's good that we can all decide when we think it is best for us to install new software... especially core software at the OS level. Some jump right on it in the first possible second and good for them. Other wait "a few days": good for them. Still others wait until .2, .3, .4, .5, etc- whatever they think is best for their own situation: good for them too.

There is no one right way for all... just ways we each decide are right for each of us.
