Who still loves their clamshell?

Are you talking about the fruity coloured ibooks ? They got them in just as I was leaving school.... they had this defect where the shell cracked and I got blame for it because I used them the most....
But yeah, I am very glad they got rid of those colours, they where not asthetically pleasing.

I had a clamshell for a a few weeks. I miss it quite a bit. I thought the colours were fun, and it was a revolutionary (IMO) piece of machinery. The screen resolution was surprising to me when I first saw it..I wouldn't mind having one now.
We still use and are attached to our 366 Indigo clam. A funny experience - I was on a consulting assignment in Washington DC. We were in the project war room and most of the team was having difficulties connecting through the client's "public" network. Our clam was the only Mac and only computer that connected. Some of the client's IT team came into the war room to troubleshoot - the lead tech stopped in his tracks when he saw the clam and bluetoothed to the rest of his team:
"Guys you will not believe this - I'm actually looking at a real Apple clamshell in use, and it is the only computer that will connect - can't believe it"
I had taken all the usual heat about being the only Mac on the team - and it being an old clamshell and the only computer that was connecting - salt in the MS / DELL wound

I had a 300 MHz iBook blueberry. It was my first Mac with Mac OS X (Jaguar at that time). Though the battery was dead, we replaced it and was a pretty good machine, except for games
Config: 300 MHz, 30 GB, 384 MB, CD, no wireless. One thing I didnt like about it was ony 1 USB port, but that was ok for the most part, since I didn't use external mouse to operate it.
I still use mine to this day for 90% of my web surfing and instant messaging. I will probably never part with it.

I run that very system at home (with my G4 PB). I could say I "missed it," but I use and love my blueberry iBook so much that it's still very much with me.

It has a bunch of old 'Classic' educational games, Dr. Seuss stuff, Winnie-the-Pooh, etc. (The Dr. Seuss stuff is so old, one of them runs in a resolution of 512x384, the resolution of the 12" RGB Display that came out with the LC in 1990!)

It still serves me as a jukebox, bought it second hand for 200 Euros 1,5 years ago and used it for a year. The 800x600 resolution bothered me though, so when the Macbooks came out it got replaced. But I take it to parties as a jukebox cos it's so old nobody will steal it You could not leave your iPod alone anywhere...

Even though they kinda look like butt ugly toilet seats, I'd still buy one if the price was right. Just because I think it's an interesting design and was appropriate for the time it was available. I mean I wouldn't walk into a board room using one now a days. But it's still a interesting piece of design history.
I'm glad to hear all the positive responses. I can't get enough of mine. Whenever I take a machine out in public, I always opt for the clamshell rather then the MacBook Pro. I'm running tiger on my clamshell.

I would LOVE a clamshell. used one a year ago, knew I was going to get one someday. But sadly, that day has not come yet.
A timely post. My wife's indigo366 just lost its 10gb harddrive and I TRIED to encourage her to "move up" to anything G4+ but to no avail. She's getting a new 40gig drive plus more RAM and she couldn't be happier. I have to admit that the little thing is still pretty functional for most applications as long as you have some patience. Also it is physically the most indestructible laptop I have ever seen.
I want one..

I do own one but i bought mine around the middle of this year so i haven't had it for that long. I have done quite a few things to it since i bought it.
I originally paid $369/£190 for a 466 Key lime Clamshell that came with 64MB of ram, 10GB hard drive and no disks. I also had to pay £100 shipping and duty tax to get the clamshell to the UK so i really paid £290 including the shipping and tax. I also had to buy an Airport card for it (i bought a Buffalo Airport card for it at first but then i managed to snag an Apple Airport card for a fair price so i sold the Buffalo card in the end), new 60GB 5,400rpm hard drive, 512ram upgrade, OSX and OS9 disks, new YoYo and a change of covers as the one it came with had ink on it that could not be removed. I also bought an external CD-RW for it as well.
I am not sure how long i am going to keep it though. It performs well for most tasks is fine for iTunes and it can even handle Photoshop. I had to use it for two weeks when my CD MBP that i owned was in service once and it performed very well.
I don't use it hardly at all these days though just to discharge the battery etc or when i have visitors round who require the use of another laptop then it will come out.
It is a lovely little thing though and i really love the design. I have had offers from my family members to buy it as they all love it as it is original and unusual.
