Come out with their own version of Photoshop/Illustrator or Dreamweaver/Flash?

They are already competing with Adobe in two areas, why not the rest? As much as I like adobe products, I do prefect aperture over lightroom, and final cut over premier

Any thoughts?
 
You like Apeture more then Photoshop? intersting.

I feel that a lot of their products are for the true novice, make things as easy as possible so anyone can use them, but professionally - not sure iWeb or iMove HD competes with specialized products.

I think they'd be wasting their time honestly. They specialize more in Hardware.
 
I don't think they will take on Adobe. Photoshop is too firmly entrenched. For the consumer products, however, like Elements, well maybe...

He didn't say that. He said he liked Aperture more than Lightroom which is a completely different product too Photoshop.

Ever heard of Apple Final Cut Studio, Shake, Aperture, and Logic Pro? All of those (especially Final Cut Studio and Logic Pro) are extremely well respected amongst professional users and for Final Cut Studio at least compete well with the major heavy weights in their area (Avid for example).

I think it would be a waste of time to challenge Adobe in the graphic design sector. With CS Adobe have tied up their products together so nicely that it would take something extra special to break this chain.

If there was one app that I would like to see from Apple though, it would be a pro-web design suite.. that would be nice :)

Well he said fairly obviously said "Photoshop/Illustrator or Dreamweaver/Flash?" and I was responding to those. As a graphic designer I don't see it happening and why would they focus on software instead of hardware? Is microsoft going to be making hardware soon too?
 
Apple are under resourced enough (Leopard delay) without trying to compete with a well established set of apps. Besides, it's good to have major developers' bringing their apps back to the Mac (Premiere) so let's not p*ss em off ;)

Apple have always been a software company that makes hardware, not a hardware company that makes software.

Software has always been their primary focus.
 
I honestly don't see them diving into these two programs. Dreamweaver maybe. They are really trying to push Web 2.0 and web applications so they may cross XCode to work with web stuff. But I doubt it would be anywhere near as powerful as Dreamweaver. And Photoshop is way out of Apple's league. Of course they could do it but why. Photoshop is an immensely complex program. It would take years for Apple to develop something up to the standards of Photoshop CS3. And when that would happen Photoshop would have surpassed it. It's like Microsoft trying to catch up with Apple.
 
All true, but if Apple could release a Photoshop CS3 wannabe, I would look into getting it. For the typical $300 price point that they like to hit, a PSCS3 wannabe for web design and image manipulation would me killer.

The "i" apps are not in the same league as the other Apple products,
GarageBand - Novice/podcasting
Logic Express - intermediate.
Logic Pro - Pro level application

I like to use Apple software as much as possible, because well they build the hardware, and they have written the OS that runs on that hardware. It's just better integration. To say that Apples applications are for novice users is a little off.

Now as far as to the OPs question. I don't think they will. Their main focus is Applications that span from consumer to pro, like the example above. I think Apples got enough on their plate with that.
 
No one plays in Adobe Sandbox unless they give you permission. You can play right outside the sandbox (see programs not Photoshop) but when you try to play in it, you either get crushed or acquired. Luckily for Macromedia they were victim of the latter. :)
 
well once they get to releasing a beta there could be a very good (ilife sort of price range) photoshop alternative in pixelmator

Its looking like it could be a very useful second photoshop (say on your laptop and keep photoshop on the desktop) for people in graphics as smaller businesses don't always want to have to buy multiple copies of the same program due to cost constraints. I know I don't as I already feel we get stung enough in the UK by adobe.

From what I remember, you are allowed to install adobe apps on 2 machines as long as you own both.

ooh didn't know that, if thats true it slightly better but if pixelmator can do everything I need it to it may be a cheaper alternative anyways. As long as it works fine with photoshop :)

seriously? come on? Apple is a software company that happens to make beautiful hardware that they lock their software to. That's it. They make hardware to sell the software. And Aperture is better than Lightroom, but nothing compares to good ol' photoshop.

On a side note, anything ever happen with that Microsoft Graphic Designer app? Just curious?

Apple's primary focus is to supply mac users with a good service

so if anything they would spend their time developing software to compete with that that only runs on windows...mac users already have a great graphic design suite in CS3 (i should know:D)

but as apple have many other things on their plate (leopard/iPod/iPhone for the rest of the world)...i don't see any 'new' apps for a while
 
I remember when InDesign was coming out people were saying Adobe was nuts to try to compete with Quark and now look at them.

So yeah I'd love to see Apple release some more Adobe competition apps. Competition is always good! But I think it would be an uphill battle as Photoshop is a really tight program, hard to top that.

Hrm. I guess hardware such as the iPOD (the device that saved apple), iPhone, and the original Macintosh which revolutionized the personal computer have nothing to do with apples success, and it's apps like Aperture...
