You just can't compare the buzz that Steve Jobs created when running HIS company to the mediocre performance and route Apple has taken since Cook stood in.
I just wonder how much Jobs had to do with his appointment.
If its a lot I would certainly be surprised.
I just don't like him so maybe I'm not seeing it clearly.
Issues arose while Steve Jobs ran HIS company but IMO things are not the same.
Who needs a mini iPad? Get the Os's correct before putting them out.
He showed zero respect by not mentioning SJ one time in the keynote for new iPad which has a foolish name, is thicker and does not work.
People , keep your second gen ipads , they are the last thing Steve Jobs crafted and a solid device indeed.
I have little good to say about T. Cook so ill stop here.
Flame me but I know I'm correct in thinking there are two much better choices to run this company. Much better.

I think he is doing a fine job, I refuse to compare him to Steve, entirely different personalties.

Just look at how emotional he was at the end of WWDC this year when he thanked everyone for contributing to changing people's lives...there was proper emotions flowing through him there. This shows he cares, and that's enough for me when evaluating him.

Well, Tim Cook sure isn't Steve Jobs, but much as we all wish Jobs were still with us, since he isn't, then who do you think should run Apple, if not Tim Cook? Ive doesn't have the temperament to run a complex cooperation like Apple, Scott Forstall is still unseasoned, Bob Mansfield? Peter Oppenheimer? Philip Schiller? Who would *you* suggest?

Without any inside knowledge, this is an impossible question to answer.

Apple stock is doing fine, so the market seems to disagree with you.

Steve is reported to have had input on years worth of Apple's future product line. It is unreasonable to think he wasn't involved in the new iPad.

The iPad name had to drop the number because of the new iPad Mini line. Sequential numbering doesn't work well for two simultaneous models. iPods, iMacs, MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, Mac Pros, Mac Minis, and Apple TVs all do fine without a number tacked onto their names.

Lots of random thoughts here. Jobs appointed Cook as Interim CEO during his extended medical leaves, so Cook was on bench before Jobs formally stepped down. The rest of your post is pretty much subjective.

Mmmm, never thought about the iPad 2 like that. Good info on that one, maybe I will buy the 2. ;)

I think it's hard to argue against the fact that he is doing a good job by any objective standard.

Of course, if your measuring stick is "Is Cook doing everything that I think he should do?" or "perfection" than there's not much to discuss.


(I love the offhand mention of "mediocre performance" as if it's an established fact rather than a distortion of reality. :D)

I'm not sure because the whole Maps fiasco is a result of caring more about corporate battles than whats best for the consumer.

Still, I like Cook BUT if iOS7 doesn't blow the industries collective minds then I do have to blame him for keeping Scott Forstall in charge of iOS for waaay too long. Hardware has been amazing but nobody could claim that Software/OS has been the best that Apple is capable of.

I disagree. Google wasn't going to give iOS turn-by-turn directions, so the only way Apple was going to ever bring that feature to iOS was to implement their own maps solution. The mistake was in not admitting upfront the limitations of the new maps app. Would Jobs have made the same mistake? I really don't know. But I'm sure he would have been for moving away from Google maps -- in fact, that decision was probably made while he was still alive.

"Waaay too long" = a whole year = one major release. :rolleyes:

Hardware has been amazing but nobody could claim that Software/OS has been the best that Apple is capable of.

All this Steve worship is getting crazy. He was no doubt a great man but one man cannot run a company. All ideas weren't Steve's. But comparing Steve to Tim as CEO, Steve was much better at quality control.

By what standard indeed. This topic is worse than armchair quarterbacking since 99.99% of what happens goes on outside anyone's first-hand experience.

Funny how with nearly 50,000 employees some people think Steve Jobs did everything while her was CEO.

While Jobs is an original co (or tri) owner of Apple the day it went public (Dec. 12, 1980) is the day he sold Apple to the shareholders. So it may have been sentimentally his company, but it was't HIS company.

Tim Cook (just like Jobs did) works for the board of directors which in turn is guided by the shareholders. So it doesn't matter who thinks Cook is doing a good job other than the board/shareholders (often influenced by the stock price).

Had Jobs done a bad job running Apple the board would have fired him just like the company would fire a janitor that didn't sweep the floor.

The "gate" signifies people making a huge scandal out of a small problem. There have been like 100 gates about the iPhone so far, and people love to make new ones up. This particular one means that anodized aluminum isn't resistant to scratches. Shocker. The glass was. However, the glass shattered. Would you prefer shattering or scratching?

There's one word I like to say to people like you: MobileMe. Yes. There was crappy software even when Steve was in control. I see no decline. Simple consistency. Even with apple, not everything is perfect.

iOS4 - Multitasking and Folders
iOS5 - Siri and iCloud
iOS6 - Maps and Siri again

Thats 3 years in a product thats only 5 years old. There can be arguments for how iOS4 and iOS5 are solid and I'll agree, BUT in a market where Apple started out literally YEARS ahead of the competition then their development has been so slow that others have caught up. You may make excuses for them but the bottom line is that Apple is MUCH better than this and in no way would anyone say a prime example of Apple's greatness is iOS4, 5 or 6.
