Sorry guys. Today I went to Apple and bought iPad Pro 12.9” 2021 😂 even I was writing that it is pointless. Why?

Firstly in our country right now we have 8% summer discount on all models. So this discount compensate me 150 bucks loss of difference in prices when I sell iPad Pro 2020. So I think I will not have better opportunity for upgrade and next year I would loss half price of iPad Pro 2020' s price.

Lets speak about reasons that are worth 200€

  1. I was waiting for upgrade my Air 2 for few years and in 2020 I was really disappointed with minimum upgrade that Apple introduced with iPad Pro 2020. The M1 version was what I was waiting for. To be honest I was never happy about having iPad Pro 2020.
  2. I thought deeply about benefits which are not small:
  • XDR display
  • M1 chip
  • thunderbolt port
  • 5G mobile network
  • 2GB RAM more
  • centerstage
Let me explain why it is not minor upgrade

  1. XDR display - the truth is that iPad is in general only one big display so improving display means better experience in every way of usage. For me it is really noticeable upgrade.
EYE STRAIN - from the first time I had both version of iPad Pro 2020 (11” and 12.9”) my eyes hurts and something was unpleasant that I could not explain. Now I know that it was LCD display that hurts my eyes. We are all the time looking into lights that are every time turned on. LED technology is much more pleasant because black diods are off. Right now I feel much more relaxed looking into bigger display and this benefit for my health is worth every penny. Now I know I will not look into LCD lights for few years everyday few hours.
  2. M1 chip - okay, arguments are that iPadOS does not unlock full potencial of this beast but I do not agree. How is possible that Divinity 2 Origin Sin (do not know the name very well) is playable at 60 fps but iPad Pro 2020 handle "only" 30 fps? So that shows that there are apps and games comming that can use the power of M1 and we do not have to be dependend on Apple software engineers. Right now I have to confirm that iPad Pro 2021 is much more fluid and you do not experience any lag at all. I remember that there were situation when iPad Pro 2020 lagged. And I am looking for new Diablo game and want to have best experience.
  3. Future proof - I have to admit that having iPad Pro 2020 would make me still unhappy and waiting again for new model in 2022. So going for 2021 model even when WWDC disappoints us is for me solution that I do not have to think next 4 years that I missed something and looking everytime for changing my device for something better.. thunderbolt, 5g network, online videocalls with better camera makes it worth for next years. And I have one more year for iPadOS update.

  4. Battery life - I was using iPad Pro 2020 few hours per day and charging everyday, sometimes twice a day. So right now I have again complete fresh new battery and do not have to worrry that my iPad can serve me one year less because of battery capacity depreciation.
so after few hours of using I have to say I am really happy with the upgrade. In reality the difference between two models is bigger than when you are only reading about it and reading opinions of other people that are disappointed from conference.

BUT NOW I HAVE TWO iPad Pros 12.9”, so guys wish me luck to finding a buyer and selling 2020 version for good price. That is only what worries me at the moment!!! 🤣🤣🤣

i upgraded because i have to have the latest apple everything even though i don't need it :p

kidding. went from 2018 to 2021 M1. Sold it to friend who wanted to give it as a gift to his kid. Otherwise I would have kept it for another year or two.

I did And I’m pretty happy. I had the 10.5” iPad Pro And normally would have upgraded to the 2020 iPad. But the 2020 upgrade was so lame with basically the same performance. When I heard they were going to the M1 I immediately pulled the trigger.

I was already happy with multitasking before. Once I had split screen, files, and mouse support I was pretty much done. So to me iPadOS 15 is all upside. My one disappointment is no improved monitor support. But that’s just a nice-to-have because I wouldn’t use it very often any way.

For years I always thought the big one was too large for my uses. I bought the 11” Pro in August last year. Loved the device, but over time I started to use it for a lot more media consumption than I ever have and thought it would be nice to have the larger one. I checked out the 12.9 in my local Apple Store and while it was heavier, I figured the benefits outweighed (no pun intended) the negatives. Eventually the M1 iPads get announced and I was tempted to order it but the lead time was too far out so I figured I can just wait.

On the day of release I checked the Apple Store website at 8 in the morning and all the local stores had them available for same day pickup. Couldn’t be happier with the device!

The only real difference I see in the 2020 and 2021 is the screen. Everything else: battery life, speed, future proofing, aren't really going to be a big difference when it comes to comparing the 2020 model to this years.

If you are happy with the upgrade that's all that really matters.

I'm excited for them to add 32GB of RAM and 64GB of RAM that'll remain completely unused.

I upgraded to the 2020 12.9”, primarily because I wanted a better and larger screen than my 10.5” iPP. I would have bought a 12.9” iPad Air were there such a device. I should be okay considering my fairly light usage for at least another four years.

Czech Republic. It is a student discount. I am little bit older but I am doing my master degree again.
Oh nice, I knew from the Slavic name you must live nearby, but not the the same country ?.
I got the student discount too, but it was “only” 1330Kč, which is 4% discount for the 256GB WiFi version from Apple website.
GL in studies brother.

Edit: Found the Official reseller with 8-10% discount. And they have it in stock.
I’m out of return period, but I will try to call Apple.
Double the discount is double the discount.

Thanks, man! My discount was 4000 Kč. I love that you like our prices ?? but what worries me now is that one shop in Prague is selling iPad Pro 2020 for really low prices. So I have doubts if I sell it for good price ?

I laugh when I see people use "Futureproof" as reason to buy something. Can you predict the future? Can you time travel?

Nearly all iPads are "futureproof" because Apple have refused to unleash the OS.

Yeah, but the M1 is so far ahead of the A12X/Z in performance and memory that it’s not too big a leap to predict that the 2021 iPad Pro will still be usable long after the 2018/20 iPad Pros are put out to pasture.

Nobody needs to apologize for what gear they buy. I know you were just saying it to be silly, but there really is too much judgement about who is using what for what tasks. Nobody knows your workflow(s) but you, so only you can determine the best tool for the job at hand. Even if you buy a maxed out 12.9" iPad Pro with all the bells and whistles SOLELY to watch video--that's your business and nobody else's choice to judge.

Again, I know you were saying it in a lighthearted way, but I just wanted to point out that too many people worry WAY too much about what gear others are using. It's super weird, and I don't get it.

Z Ovy ?.
Fortunately Apple Suport have been very nice, as they always are and agreed to return the iPad, no questions asked.
Now there's a bigger discount, I will now be exactly 108% satisfied with the iPad, a sizeable increase from 104%.

I upgraded the 12.9" 2018 to a 12.9" 2020 and had eye strain with the 2020 too. The two displays are quite different with lower contrast ratio on the 12.9" 2020.

Finally I decided to get the 12.9" 2021 and there are no eye strain issues on this gorgeous Mini LED display. I’m not watching movies in the darkness or using dark mode. So no blooming.

A little bit disappointing are the speakers. Voice in videos like the recent keynote has a lower quality. On words with an "s" at the end the "s" is emphasized. ComparEd both devices side by side.

Another issue is the thunderbolt port. Not all USB-C 3.1 and 3.2 cables are compatible with USB 3.1 and 3.2 external SSD drives. The cable has to be at least Thunderbolt 3 compatible to connect Non-Thunderbolt drives without issues.

If you still had your 2018, do you think you would have upgraded to the 2021?

Same here ??‍♂️ I compare sound on both 2020 vs 2021 and 2020 is little bit better. Btw sound was one reason why I have returned 11” model last year and took 12.9”.
As for sound on youtube there you can find a lot of people who wrotes comments on review that sound is on 2020 really better. But this is not something what I would care. The difference is minimal.

As for thunderbolt, I still did not try it.

I am glad that I am not the only one who prefer miniled for eye health.
