Well, I'm thinking maybe a $599 version, without the Optical Drive?

(runs and hides)

Seems like Steve's not much into physical media anymore. Plus, I personally have a DVD-RW external FW drive from my old Mini (which only had a DVD/CDRW drive).

Ideally, Apple should've kept the price at $499... especially in today's economic situation...
 
What we want and what Jobs wants us to have will rarely be one in the same.

they make it, called the macmini SERVER, its just not $599;) besides a dvdrw drive doesn't cost 100bucks these days.

idk why people gripe about the price, if you're buying Apple you already know you're going to pay more than a comparable PC anways.:rolleyes:

Yeah exactly. You're being Apple, And Apple will be always expensive.
And besides, For me. This add of the $100 Is fine because anyways i meant to buy the Mini before the update so now it's like i'm paying $100 for a better graphic card :)
 
I wouldn't mind if the Mini wouldn't start at 976$ in Europe, compared to the 699$ you guys pay. If I would import it myself, including NYC taxes and shipping, would be around 900$. $=€ was a fair deal, as every other mac is, and the old Mini was (499$ vs. 499€) but 699$ vs. 809€ is a bit off.

Exactly... the Mini is dirt-cheap in the States. In Europe, as usual, we get completely ripped off again. Paying about 800 euro's for a computer with a 2.4GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and 320GB HDD is ridiculous.

And yes, that is almost a THOUSAND (1000) US Dollars for the standard Mini.
 
Mac Mini is $988 in Sweden including taxes.

I purchased it in USA for $730 including taxes though :)

You certain do but not by Apple. £649 - 17.5% VAT = £535 That's £2.84 Sterling if you had Sterling instead of coloured paper. Your betters have stolen the rest. Shouldn't you be working, you have a lot of bureaucrats to support.

We can choose not to buy from Apple. Sadly there is not much we can do about our politicians.
 
My point is they can offer a low-end option without the optical drive, and a single hard drive for $599.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if they do this next year and make the optical drive an external option.

doubt it, unless their sales are hurting at the current price point, it's already the cheapest macintosh you can buy.

Also like I mentioned, it doesn't cost them 100 bucks to include the DVD drive, taking it out would only lower their profits.:rolleyes:
 
when the original mini 1.25 g4 was released it did just cost £339 , that included VAT ok back then only 15% , but still that was a affordable Mac
today we all know hardware got cheaper in comparison with hardware prices ,
in 2005 , but apple just ignores that fact and makes people believe £649 is value for money ,

the price of the new mini is just not to justify in any way ..and we still live in a recession with more unemployment to expect over the next couple month an the rise of low payed jobs just above the minimum wage on the horizon ....
the conclusion in that environment to find people who are willing to pay £649 for a small aluminium box that does not even offer a blue ray drive ...as a htpc is ridiculous
apple should have last years mini with a say older slower processor smaller harddrive and the old graphicscard sold it for £300 and they would have a winner with a value for money pricetag

Everyone knows Apple charges too much for their products, but hey, gotta pay if you want it.

I was looking at an iphone 4 simfree from the UK, but dang, 599 pounds sterling is bloody murder.:D Apple is sure raping you guys over there!
 
recession proof or not the price difference between
the US $699 and the UK $981 can neither be explained due to Vat or shipping cost

and it even gets better if you come and add full ram and fastest processor biggest drive , magic mouse and a wireless keyboard and 24 inch display
which comes in the us then to a price of $ 2486
in the uk the same setup will bring you to $ 3044

then its cheaper to buy a iMac 27" i5 upgraded to 8gb ram which only comes to $ 3026 here in the uk

ok you could say you could buy a cheaper display , but even without that the mini cost $1587 if you live in the us , but $ 1893 and if you live in the uk

Ehm. 799EURO including 19% tax = 671EURO without tax = 844USD

844USD vs. 699USD both without tax is still... well... a bit off isn't it?

Well - have things changed back to what Apple's done in the Mac Classic days?

I thought they've always charged about 15% more for their computers outside of the USA...

Trouble is Apple (or their subsidiaries) do not have infinite production capacity - if you can produce x,000 units a month it is better to sell all of them for (say) 40% profit than create demand you cannot fill and just make 10% on the units you can.

I'd like to see a mini office machine - no dvd, small hard drive, basic 'office' software and a budget price - but you can bet there is no money in it for Apple.
 
Here's the Romanian price tag:

$951 + $228 (24% VAT)

Total: $1179 for a Mac Mini. Guess I'll stick to my old Macbook for a few more years.
 
My favourite store has just started to stock them so I ordered mine today. I'd love a price drop, but sort of got one anyway with the wife's staff discount (12%).

Now the big decision to buy 4gb or take it out of my older Mini (same memory) before I sell it.
