I totally will. I agree that the 17" laptops have there strong points, but i love the delicate balance between portablility and screen size that the 15" maintains. I just can't see me carrying around a 17" laptop everywhere I go, even though I love the larger screen.

A friend of mine had a coupon and was able to get a Dell laptop really cheap. So, he opted for a 17 inch one because of its large screen size. However, when he got it, he realized how big it was and wishes he got a smaller one, since it is very difficult to carry around, and because there are very few laptop cases for a laptop that size. :-x

I love how the 15.4" MBP works out more expensive then the 17"...

(this is all from the apple store online UK)

MBP 17" 2.16Ghz 1GB RAM 100GB 7200HDD = £1999

MBP 15" (upgraded to 2.16Ghz) 1GB RAM 100GB 7200HDD (upgraded from 5400) = £2059

and that doesn't take into account the extra USB's the firewire 800, the 8x superdrive.
insane!

I was planning on getting a 15", but I think i'll go for the 17" now, yes it's bigger, but it's not so big that I need to drag it around on wheels.

is it really that bad? i've never used a 17" laptop, and i dont think i've used a 15 incher either, but i think i would go for the 17" if i was buying an mbp and wanted the 2.16 ghz core duo

Well the way I think about it is this...do you want to commit to lugging around a 17" LCD? Granted the MBP is smaller & thinner than most desktop LCDs your still lugging around a rather large panel.

I bought a 17" Gateway laptop becuase I needed a full keboard w/ number pad. Would is the general feeling about Apple integrating a number pad into the 17" MacBook Pro?

The 17" has been out now for what, ... 4 hours? Do you *really* not think that Apple will adjust the 15" prices?

I might get one of the 17in MBP as a mobile desktop. I'll be moving between two places quite often in the future for work and throwing an iMac or a PowerMac in the back of my car doesn't seem like too good an idea. Though I'm also hoping for a 12in version as well for when I have to travel further away and just need a laptop.

I would, I prefer the 15" MBP because of its awesome blend of screen size, performance, and weight. :) If you seldom take your laptop on the go, then the 17" MBP is probably the best model for you. :)

I could see buying a 2.00 15", but no idea why anyone would buy a 2.16 15"

If the 17" had a number pad, I'd buy it! I love the numberpad.

Maybe the 12" MBP will be the most expensive. Surely it is more difficult to get the same amount of power in a smaller case. Just look at the mobile phone market, the smallest ones tend to be the most expensive.

I *Re-heeaaalllllyyyyy* don't think they will, I mean the 15.4" isn't exactly an antique now is it?

Is that a "Doctor Cox" delivery?

I really don't think so, no! Apple (like any other company) aren't interested in pricing that's "fair," but only in asking just the right price to ensure that enough consumers will want to buy their product. That means that when you feel that there are benefits of getting a 15 in over a 17 in because of portability, Apple will have thought about that too and will charge you more for the extra benefits. ;)

Weird.

I didn't think Apple would stand for having an upgraded 15" price out to a few hundred dollars more than a 17", esp considering that the 17" has FireWire 800, a faster DL drive, and an extra USB port.

I guess I didn't mean "price drop" on the 15" as much as I thought that the $2499 15" would start to ship with 2.16 standard.

I can't believe this is even a thread. Don't you people have any lives?

OMG NO PRICE DROP IN 4 HOURS OMG THIS IS TOTALLY TEH SUCKS.

Obviously you don't either.

kinda funny that you all think the 17" is a "mobile desktop" or so hard to "lug around" when it's a whopping 1.2 lbs. heavier than the 15". I prefer a 15", but 1.2 lbs is not exactly a huge difference.

This was the criteria I used when I decided to switch mine. It's an inch wider on the sides and an inch wider in depth. Really isn't THAT much if you think about it.
