Do you think they might drop the price in next two weeks or so...and is a price drop actually possible ?

Has Apple done such a thing in the past ?

I am planning to buy the basic MBP 1999 dollars (worth 2800 dollars here in India) and was wondering if a price drop was possible ?

I wouldn't count on it

This was the criteria I used when I decided to switch mine. It's an inch wider on the sides and an inch wider in depth. Really isn't THAT much if you think about it.

Hey eVolcre, switch those tags in your sig to match up. Unless that's some cool coder thing that I don't know about, in which case, feel free to ignore me.

Assuming they would do so, do you guys think they would credit you the price difference if you bought your MacBook Pro two days ago?

If not, they'd probably have to cope with a tremendous amount of returns.

I think they will protect you from price changes within 10 days.

I wouldn't buy now, a speedbump for the 15" is probably in order. If you max out a 15" it does cost more than the 17"!

I own a laptop for it's portability and when I need more screen real estate I plug it into my external monitor. 17" is just way too big for a portable computer IMO.

Having said that though, I wouldn't buy a 15" MBP right now either. I'm holding out until next year when they're more stable and have a better chip inside.

I would actually buy the 1.83 MBP, simply because 1.83 is still SUPER FAST. I honestly don't need more than that, so why pay hundreds of dollars more? I think a lot of people are upgrading just so they can say "Oh, you have a 2 ghz processor? Well, mine is 2.16! Beat that!" So, I could honestly say that I am happy with the 1.83. Especially since the laptop I currently own does the job with 1.3 GHZ (although I do my video editing in the mac labs at school).

I love how the 15.4" MBP works out more expensive then the 17"...

(this is all from the apple store online UK)

MBP 17" 2.16Ghz 1GB RAM 100GB 7200HDD = £1999

MBP 15" (upgraded to 2.16Ghz) 1GB RAM 100GB 7200HDD (upgraded from 5400) = £2059

and that doesn't take into account the extra USB's the firewire 800, the 8x superdrive.
insane!

I was planning on getting a 15", but I think i'll go for the 17" now, yes it's bigger, but it's not so big that I need to drag it around on wheels.

Yeah but the 15" is smaller. Smaller doesnt mean cheaper. Take for instance a Sony TX series 11inch computer. It costs almost 2000$ but its tiny, hardly has any ports and processor is damn slow. yet some people want SMALLER not fricken 17inch huge machine.

Dont get me wrong, Im sure the 17inch is great, I just dont think its a laptop u can like whip out in starbucks or something, and for that, its CHEAPER than something u can actually whip out in starbucks or carry around without straining ur back! for that you are PAYING more, for the compactness and smaller case.

I would still purchase a 2.0 15" MBP over the 17" for its balance of size, screen, power, portability, etc. And for me, I wouldn't max it out so it stays under the price of the 17".

If only it had an extra USB port. I can live w/o the firewire 800.
