Has anyone broken some of the tabs on the lower case of their Mini when they opened it to upgrade.

It still closes and seems to work fine, but is there anything I can do about it or should I do anything about it? Just curious

Don't think so, unless you can try to see if theres another case but, good luck moving all that stuff.

I plan to upgrade mines when I'm back from my trip.

No once u break them there's not much u can do to put them back. If it closes up, then just leave it be.

I actually opened mine up Today to install the 4GB sticks.

Well, I decided to take my monitor and Mini with me.

Never ****ing again, is all I can say after trial and error about 5-6 times.

I had the bluetooth wire come off. a bit of a pain to get it back on. I doubt it matters much about the tabs. the price of dyi

so how did the surgery go then besides the scrapes? I had to re-open mine up again after installing the memory sticks and re-seat them. Working great now.
I went through trial and error about 5-6 times.

Gettings the RAM in was a pain, I had the same problem with the top one although the bottom went in fine. I didn't figure that out until I booted it and checked the profiler. I left the case off until everything was set at the least.

The HD was aggravating me since I tried to install it without taking the CD try out, at least i got it.

Then when that didn't read, along with the fan and CD drive not working, I realized that I didnt connect it to the main board. THEN I had to take it apart again and after 15-20 tries of putting the top RAM in right, just like my friends parents showed us with some puppets, I jammed and forced that thing in there until it decided to just take it.

Everything went smooth, I even found the missing screw I wasnt going to even bother to look for.

And THEN when I think everything is set, I go to connect that little piece thats right behind the CD tray and realized it was trapped between the top and bottom part so I had to REMOVE the top part AGAIN just to get it out cause I didnt wanna risk ripping it out.

Overall, I'm now updating it with Leopard and keeping SL on my MacBook and with this cable internet everything is dandy, definitely worth it in the end at the least.

I've opened mine twice. Once for RAM, once for HDD. I don't think I will open it again, it doesn't feel designed to be opened more than a few times...

(Used) replacement lower cases areavailable on eBay for $15 - just make sure it's the right model! (I don't think that one is right for you, but the seller might have others.)

It matters because the broken tabs just ensured the warranty is void.
I dont think it was designed for the customer to open at all.
It isn't. No part of the mini is user upgradeable. Of course, that didn't stop most people, but that's the case.

I'm rather pleased that my HDD and RAM upgrade went well. Most likely thanks to the steadier hands of a friend. After I pried off the top it was all on him. :D
