Who's afraid of Windows 7?

Personally I've only used it for 10 minutes, and as a beta version, it kept crashing.

But the buzz is so positive on Win 7...

How much will it impact Mac market share growth?

Will OS X have enough market differentiation?

As they say, competition is good, but can Apple improve OS X enough to leap-frog Win 7?

There aren't many re-switchers, but the ones who want to re-switch will probably want to do so when the Win7 laptops come on sale. (Or simply run win7 on their macs.)

Honestly, it doesn't matter one bit. Apple and Windows OSes don't really "compete" in terms of versions, they compete in terms of ecosystems. People don't switch cause of Snow Leopard, they switch cause they like macs.
Same thing with re-switching. They need some win-only software, or they're tired of their friends complaining that they can't find "the effing internet" when they're on your computer.

I have used it for 5 months it has crashed 1. Ironically connecting the iphone to itunes 9.0

That's what I was saying: it was a beta version, so I didn't expect it to be stable.

I've been using the RC since it was released on my PC at work, day in, day out. I run a lot of stuff (I'm IT support) and it's not crashed once, or perceivably slowed down any for that matter.

Agreed. I haven't had any problems at all with the RC bootcamped on my macbook pro penryn. Its the first version of windows I've been able to tolerate for a long period of time. :-D

I never switched in the first place, I've been Mac since before I was 10, but when I use Windows I tend to hate it. I'll admit that they did a much better job on 7 than Vista, and I was on the RC testing thing, but it's still Windows: it's unsecure, virus prone, and it has the registory.

I've used both, I prefer OSX by far, Windows 7 looks like just a revamped Vista without all the junk. SL is awesome ^_^.

Not afraid of it on it's own but when you see win7 laptops with i7 chips appear that are better priced than a MBP then it's time for Apple to get a moveon on the hardware front. The 15" HP envy for example has a radeon 4830 graphics card inside and the option to have up to 16gb ram!! Plus it has 2 hard drive bays both of which can be fitted with SSD's only an inch thickand just over 5 pounds.

If Apple made a laptop with this spec I'd hate to see the price! To be honest though I'd just be happy with a MBP with an i7 in the next update please!

7 RC works just fine on my imac. I like it a lot, I just don't "get" the taskbar yet. Closing some programs makes them hide there mac-like, but others just seem to close. I don't know, still haven't gotten the hang of it. Maybe it's because I only use it to run steam.

Try installing a RC version of W7 and see how that goes. When I did this the other night, the only issue I had was that when running the BootCamp driver disk in W7, it wouldn't install the video drivers, so I had to manually run the exe from the disk.

Hard to imagine that OSX which has a market share of around 8-9% can topple Windows which has over 90% market share. Factor in a recent study that says that 85% of Mac users also own a PC with WIndows, then it makes it darn near impossible for it to ever happen.

Unless Apple drastically reduces the prices of it hardware, they will have a hard time getting above 10% market share. As the economy slow down really started to hit at the beginning of this year, Apples market share actually dropped in year over year numbers from over 8% to 7.8%. At the same time, their hardware sales slowed even while PC sales grew, mainly from the sale of low cost netbook PC's. With their high cost hardware, Apple will always be a big victim of market forces.

When I saw this, I thought it was going to be about afraid in switching to Windows 7 on a PC. I am afraid of Windows 7, I have nightmares about it of wanting to kill my computer with the BSOD hehehehe.

I've used the RC 7100 and I don't think Build 7600 is much different, apart from the fixes - I have found nothing bad about 7100 though - EDIT: Apart from ethernet having to be replugged in each time I start up)
But I have nightmares of error codes - Error at 0x0000088 lol (jk)

Nothing beats the intuitiveness of OSX 10.5 & 10.6!

Why would anyone running Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Vista, XP, Linux or DOS be afraid of Windows 7? Why would the thought even come up? I would think people made a choice of hardware and OS based on their needs, not to get into a pissing contest with their friends on who is using the latest and greatest and who has the newest features.

But I guess that would be a way too sensible approach. Silly me.
