The 7th generation iPad might be released soon. I would wait.I’m considering buying a 2018 iPad after selling my 2017 MacBook. The Air 3 is better, but for my needs the cost saving for the base model seems more suitable.
What do you use yours for and hows it going? Do you find the base model is doing more than fine?
Typical consumption stuff. Surfing, forums, video streaming, email, comics, ebooks. To be honest, performance-wise, I don't notice much of a difference between the 2018 A10 iPad and the 2017 A10X iPad Pros. When I'm on the A9/A10-based iPads, I don't really start thinking "I wish this was faster" like I do whenever I have to work with HDD-based PCs. Granted, I leave ProMotion disabled on my Pros.I’m considering buying a 2018 iPad after selling my 2017 MacBook. The 6th gen is a great tablet. Its plenty fast and the non laminated display is a non issue. I enjoy the pencil support alot. They are basically giving them away these days. 249 for a 32 at Worst Buy.
I am using this iPad model. I use it either for work related stuff (I like to sketch process improvement ideas for work or to take handwritten notes) or for personal fun (ProCreate). In terms of CPU I have no issues. I don't notice it being slow but then again I also don't do intensive stuff on it. In terms of RAM I do have some issues. Tabs and apps are being reloaded constantly. This is something that annoys me. However I think that in general this is supposed to be iOS feature (so called memory optimization which I dislike) and I assume it happens on iPad Pros too.
This is the only issue I have with this iPad. I don't think that most people care about this in general and I assume maybe most iOS users are used to it. I am a new iOS user and I associate such behavior with lagging because it makes me less efficient.
Is the screen okay with the lack of anti reflective display? I was thinking of putting a matte screen protector on it anyway. This might help while using it outside?
Do you ever do CAD work? If so, recommend any apps for it? I'm hoping the RAM isn't such a big deal because iOS makes doing one thing as a time pretty easy meaning it's hard to stretch it. Unless there's a lot of tabs open and you need them waiting whilst going between other apps which cause the former to be purged. But I fully get that phenomenon and understand the base will comparatively be 'worse than' the more pricey models
It could be September.
Isn't there going to be an iPad Pro event in October?
As always, no one knows.. Let's wait for the 10. September event, maybe we're lucky and they'll introduce new iPads there.
In what way is a non-laminated screen ideal? It's the absolute worst part of a pretty darned good iPad.Regular (base) models are perfect for me. In my case, both the 5th and 6th generations run plenty fast and smooth. The non-laminated display is ideal. I too look at value and cost saving, and the Pro and even Air models aren't worth it to me. It'll be interesting to see what the anticipated 7th generation brings, expected to be released later this year (which you might also consider as the latest model).

White spot issue seems primarily on Pro 10.5 (laminated). There's also more reports of touchscreen unresponsiveness on Pro 10.5, 11 and 12.9.I can't make sense of this guys logic. I think what he means is that the iPad 2018 is best for him (personally). But he seems to be citing specs that are inferior and then arguing they are better than the superior technologies in other, more expensive models?!
It's subjective. I had both and prefer the regular iPad display. It has an equallly high res Retina display without the issues constantly raised in threads here on this forum. What's worst for you is best for me. The huge price differential seals the deal for me.

I like the laminated displays better but I gotta say, they're much worse fingerprint magnets compared to the non-laminated screens. On one hand, you've got reflections, on the other hand fingerprint haze.![]()
