Unless something comes up where I don't want the nMP (I want it...), I'll be selling my oMP 5,1. Hoping to be able to get a decent price on it since it's the newest of the old MPs (with Applecare through June 2015).

Not me, my 2009 qud will be used as a Windows machine for games and development.

Not Me - I don't like the nMP concept at all. My 5,1 will be my main machine for some time to come:eek:

Lou

I sold my fairly decked out 3,1
2x 3.0
24 RAM
WD black

Now I'm testing out a 4,1
No way I have a budget and need for nMP.
I mainly need RAM and HD expandability which iMac does not give me.
I don't edit video or audio.

Can't sell mine as I did a tax write-off on it.. it will be donated or kept to do something else...

Perhaps I might try to hack it and replace the processor, and use it for a media server or something.

Tax write off:
elaborate please

When I bought it, was doing a lot of freelance work, so it was a work expense, and written off for my taxes (I think over 5 years).

Now, if I sold it, I would have to report it as gained income since it had fully depreciated. Not worth the trouble. Better to donate it someplace, or find another use for it.

Selling my decked out MP5,1 and.....custom building a PC :(
Never thougt the day would come, but I just can't jump on the 'Thinner, lighter' Apple fanboy bandwagon.

I don't know where you live, and I don't intend to give advice, but I'll say that I believed what you believe, and when I shut down my computer-based business in 2006, thinking that the equipment I'd given away was off the S-corp's books, my accountant made me very unhappy by saying that it wasn't. I had to work out the market value of everything I'd given away, and the market value of everything I hadn't donated to charity or non-profits was considered earned income, and I had to pay taxes on it.

It was my own fault for not having asked the right question about what to do with equipment I no longer needed.

Mine wasn't an S-Corp, I was just filing a section C (I think) and the stuff was depreciated over 5-years. I went inactive with it last year when I didn't want to claim anymore writoffs and have the IRS come asking about negative income...

Just bought a 5,1 Mac Pro, so it'll be pulling duty for quite some time. My old 1,1 was upgraded to 2 x 3.0Ghz Octo's and it's main function in life these days is to Handbrake a bunch of DVD's for me. It's pretty fast for that function.

Get rid of my oMP? Are you kidding me? I still have my G4 400, dual G4 867, and dual G5 :) I think my wife is going to pile my old computers up on my side of the bed if I don't get rid of some of those soon though

I'll be selling my 2008 MP and building a hackintosh, once the kexts from the trashCan are released into the wild.

Yes, will sell my 2008 Octo 2.8 once i get a nMP, a PCIe box, and some HD exclosures. And once i'm confident it's all running well and stable. I can't afford to keep both, and wouldn't really need to.

Nether of those are answers to the OP's question.

my answer was. the op asked who will be selling their old mac pro, i said i will not because i do not have one to sell.

as for the other answer, i guess Silicon Sam did not realise these forums are meant strictly for answering closed questions and that any attempt to create discussion will be swiftly stamped out by you
