Who's gonna buy an iMac with the next revision?

I definitely am going to buy two as soon as they put in Core 2 Duo - one for my kids, and one for my dad. I know Merom isn't a huge improvement and that Conroe is basically not gonna happen, but I still think it would be silly not to wait given how soon we are expecting updates. Even if a 23" model were released, it would exceed our needs and almost certainly exceed our budget. I will end up getting a 17" iMac for the kids (2 yr old Philip and 3 yr old Oliver :)) and a 20" for my dad. Hard to wait, isn't it? Hopefully September will in fact be the month for Core 2 Duo in the iMac. Who else is waiting, money in hand, for the next iMac revision?
 
I think it depends on the offering. If the rumor of the 23'' iMac is true, I would have to strongly consider it. Merom looks like a nice upgrade as well.
 
burning a hole in my pocket. have said many times that a 23" will have me hook line and sinker. as long as the price is only £300 more than the 20"er or there abouts. else i will get a 20" and a second screen.

either way by end of sep I will be the proud owner of a iMac, how large has yet to be seen.

who wants to by my eMac. hardly used, only to read macRumors! (24/7) only £375

I had to have a computer for school!
 
I'm going to have to try very hard not to buy one. If apple puts in merom instead of conroe that will make self-control much easier.

First of all, that is an awesome machine!! Second, the end of June was a long time ago in computer terms. I just bought a new Mac Pro. If there is a dramatically improved Mac Pro released in 3 months, I will not regret my purchase. Things have to go forward, and the point is that we have kickass computers now. I bet you have done some nice work with you iMac in the past few months. I'd say you bought at the right time. Now that updates are very likely less than a month away, it's a different matter.
 
It's either the 20" or 17" for us (I'd like the 20", but my wife thinks it's too big for the space we have - 23" is definitely out of the picture). Our baby is due on the same day (plus or minus a week of course), so it'll be an extra-exciting week for me. :p
 
After six weeks with a 17" CD iMac, no.

I'm either going to have to pony up for the Mac Pro (not so bad with the Apple Student Developer discount - $1999 stock) or hold out for the mythical midtower xMac.
 
Im not intending on buying one per se, but I am going to try and push Apple to replace my faulty iMac G5 with one.

Good luck! I think Apple, like many other companies, is overly resistant when it comes to replacing faulty machines. I don't know the details, but I assume that if you seek a replacement they must have given you a real lemon.
 
I'm going to wait for Leopard to come out before I get a new Mac. By that time, my Applecare would have expired and the iMac may have the Conroe in it.

My thoughts exactly, get one for yourself and let the kids use it, don't get on just for the kids. They are more likely to break it than use it, and somehow I dont think Applecare will give you a new computer if they do.

You might be surprised how well a 3 year old can play age-appropriate video games, some of which even have a bit of educational value.

Well, in truth it will be for all of us. My wife and I both use laptops at home, and at work I have the Mac Pro. The iMac will be a convenient hub to which to backup my Powerbook's contents. Still, I would be happy enough continuing without a desktop at home if my 3 year old son Oliver weren't always borrowing my Powerbook to play the games he is used to playing at the Apple store. An iMac keyboard would be much more likely to stand up to spilled drinks, etc than my Powerbook. Look at how well the iMacs in the Apple store game area stand up to the parade of little kids that practically attack them! My kids are well-behaved enough not to detroy the display/body. Worst come worst I replace the keyboard. All that said, I was considering buying us a used eMac rather than an iMac, because the eMacs are cheaper and potentially even sturdier; however, I have decided on the iMac.

My nephew was using a computer by two. If you asked him how he spelled his name he would say: D-A-N-N-Y RETURN

Why? Conroes perform better.

I didn't even think of video games. I rarely play them so I was thinking more internet browsing and things that require the ability to read. All I can say now is lucky kids.:)
 
I still think we'll see either the Conroe Core Duo 2 or just maybe a single Core Duo 2 Woodcrest.

The iMacs have most recently been configured with one of what ever processor
the PowerMacs had two of.

The Woodcrest powered Mac Pro's already run much cooler than the G5's
so Apple might be able to pull off a single Woodcrest.

The price of LCd displays has come down enough by now that a 23" iMac
could in fact become a reality.

What a dream for a family computer or for the office where a flat 23" panel
could be used for all day tedious work or exceptional presentations.

Just imagine the look on the face of your co-workers or your boss,
seeing you live video chatting with a far away important business associate on that beautiful display.
Once the majoriity of applications have finally migrated to Universal Binary.
an iMac this powerful could be all you need in a convenient attractive pro setting.
 
I was planning to buy a 23" ACD...I wanna wait and see the price of the 23" iMac. If it's only a few hundred more, maybe I'll spring. Who knows? :rolleyes:
 
With a 23" iMac, they might be able to streamline the look a bit, reducing the size of the chin.

They just might also offer a sexy office black model.

Quite a few pros are looking at BlackBooks simply because they appear more
professional and they really don't require all the horsepower or connectivity of an MBP.

A Black wireless iMac 20" or 23" would be impressive in any home or office
and provide an option for those who find white a bit too hard to keep clean.
