I'm thinking of getting a refurb MBP and was just wondering if anyone has gotten one yet. Whine? Screen issues? MagSafe ok? Tell me how it is. Thanks.

Yeah, waiting's a toughie!
While I can't speak to the MBP in particular, I can share my experience with Apple refurbs. My two newest laptops and my cinema screen are all refurbs and - save one small glitch with a laptop latch sticking - they have been indistinguishable from new.
I would add that I saved about $200 on RAM buying aftermarket, rather than ordering in from Apple, so a new PB came in at $900 last month.
Check the promo codes area of this forum for ways to save even more!

For what I've heard, Refurb is the way to go. You can save lots of money on a machine that is in excellent condition and tested by Apple...

I just got a refurbished powerbook and it is great - No problems.
They have the same warranty as new machines, so if you do have an issue you are covered the same as if you bought new.

Well, it`s not actually bout iBooks n powerbooks. What the OP(n me too) wants to know is if someone has bought a refurb MBP. Since MBPs are having way many problems than iBook and PowerBooks ever had, we`ll be interested in finding out if the refurbs also have the same problems or are these problems fixed(to some extent atleast) in the refurbs. Buying a refurb iBook/PB/iMac will be a no brainer as these have already proven their meat. It`s the MBPs which are having all sorts of troubles.
Well I went ahead and did it. Refurb 1.83 MBP ordered on Wednesday afternoon and it was waiting here at work for me today. I'm in love. One minor blemish, the metal piece of the casing right above the latch button is bumped out a little, I may be able to push it back in a bit. Everything else seems to be really good, no sign of whine or excessive heat. We'll see how it goes, but so far VERY happy. Oh, it came with a gig of RAM too

And if you do unfortunately have a problem, you have that same warranty to support getting your issues addressed. You just didn't pay as much to begin with.
It's impossible to know if something will be perfect when yo get it or not. It could be inspected in the factory by someone who goes above and beyond to make sure it's flawless when it ships out, and then it gets tossed around a few times during delivery and something becomes messed up by the time it reaches your front door...

on the other hand - you can avoid tax by purchasing from MacConnection, etc.........
overall - best price deal?
fly to New Hampshire, go the Apple Store there, and buy a refurb or Ed-Discount computer from the store, with no sales tax

Great. Congrats on your purchase. Do keep us updated in case of any issues. I m thinking of buying one too. You got 512MB free too. Hope I`ll get one with maxed out RAM
Wait. I wont buy a MBP. It`s just too BIG (read that Pricey) for me. I m waiting for the MacBooks. Hope they`ll have an option to get a 13.3" MB with same config as 15" MBP. I am willing to pay extra for Core Duo,128MB VRAM,Backlit Keyb,iSight,120GB 5400rpm HDD. So is that a deal done Apple? Here`s my 1099$.
