Hi all,

Anyone else out there been following along through the life of This Is My Next and the impending launch of The Verge?

I always enjoyed reading Engadget back when Josh and Co. were there. This Is My Next, despite being just the interim home, has also been putting out some great stuff. It sounds like The Verge is going to be quite the website, and it looks like (besides MacRumors of course) I might have a new home for tech news.

And hey, with a team photo like this, what could go wrong? :)

I'm definitely excited, TIMN is by far my favourite review site, I can't wait for the Verge to finally launch, it looks really good (from design to writers to general attitude) and it should be a great news source

Yup, I'm a frequent This Is My Next... reader who's waiting for The Verge to come out. :)

'd say around 95% of their articles are the same as Engadget's, and the Comments section of each article is just as bad as Engadget's. However, the the quality of the reviews is higher. Engadget just give us the news blurbs and a few bad jokes. It reads like a blurb in a trash/paparazzi mag or newspaper, except Engadget happens to be about tech.

I am. Engadget just isn't the same since those guys left. I am interested to what it's going to be. I really like TISMN as it is, simple but quality articles. The Engadget page has turned into an utter mess.

Not me AT ALL.

I subscribed to the podcast for a while, and never in my life have I heard the words "I, me, my" said so much.

They're a bunch of egotistical w*nkers... Just awful to listen to. Talk about the TECH not your feelings*.
Engadget is much better since they p*ssed off.

*with that said, I don't mind their articles :p

I am. I like them a lot more since they've left Engadget. Engadget isn't the same without Topolsky. I love TIMN's Podcasts, articles, reviews, etc. It's just going to get better with The Verge.

Yes, I am. Toplosky knows his gadgets and usually has very good sources and doesn't spout crazy rumors. Nilay always brings some logic to the patent discussions because he actually used to be a patent lawyer.

it's going to be interesting what's unveiled...sounds like it's going to be some kind of hybrid tech/media site.

Listening to the last This Is My Next podcast, I laughed when they brought up Steve Jobs

"I think Jobs trolled the industry with this 'I cracked the TV'"
"You know that Gene Munster, lets get him good"

Can't wait for the Verge

Looks like I'm going to have to head to bed- can't wait up for it any longer. Kara Swisher said it'd be launching at 1AM PST- we're an hour past that now, and the current 'soon up and running' has been there for probably have an hour.

The last podcast from TIMN said it'll be up in the early hours of the morning but they hadn't decided on a time (if I remember correctly) so any time now...

I'll look at it regularly, but I'm not overly enthusiastic.
In my view, Ars Technica is the best, they have much more insight and style than all the others.

Update 9.20 GMT: It's up now.

After my first look, it seems average/unimpressive, especially after what they promised. It's way too 'busy' to really find your way around it, one of the things TIMN was good at.

I'll wait a bit before passing final judgement, but so far the layout doesn't really appeal to me.

I do like what they've done with the reviews though.

I like the idea of the story thread. That's pretty neat and it'll keep big/long going stories easy to catch up on.

The site design is a little busy (and the drop down BMW ad was down right obnoxious), but I'm already getting used to it and sites like Engadget seem boring. It really is A LOT different than other tech news sites in terms of layout and design.

Hopefully with the updates, they will be able to improve the site and add great new features.

I liked the design of TIMN better than Verge. It's just not simple anymore. Like others have said, the site is really busy. Loading it also takes a while. I'm not impressed.

Scrolling is also jerky for me. I don't know if that's just Firefox or the website but I didn't have this problem for TIMN.

I get the exact same thing in chrome, I think it's the site. It takes longer to load than Facebook, so I don't know if that's just one of the kinks they have to work out in the next few days. I've already submitted about 6 tips of ways I think they can improve the site, something I never usually do. Hopefully they fix it up, I do understand that it's a brand new site, and I wish them luck.

So far it's bitchingly great, content-wise. Performance-wise it's iffy, but I am sure they'll work it out. It really is a very talented group of people, I think.

Keep an eye out for me while you're there, Hobbes420.

Their review format/template is the best I've ever seen. However their homepage reads like a newspaper, which I think indicates they anticipate us spending newspaper amounts of time browsing their homepage. Not the case.

That's my problem with it. It's way too busy for my tastes. It's also slow on Chrome and Firefox for me.

Site is way too cluttered and slow. I won't surf it, I'll read stories I am interested in via their twitter feed.
