I'm debating, and since we cannot backport, I'm wondering what you don't like about 5.1

Then why did you update?

Updates don't always have to incorporate some cool new feature or function. Truth is, there is not much difference. But the ability to delete photos from photo stream was enough for me. And the camera slider from the lock screen is pretty nice too.

Why wouldn't you update?

Cause I'm not an isheep, I need an actual reason to do things.
My phone is running pretty well on 5.0 and want to make sure there's not user reported probs w/5.1

Well for me it seemed to fix my keyboard crash from 5.0.1. So that was more than enough for me.

But I do like the new camera access, the double tap ended up being unwieldy every now and then.

Also if you want iPhoto for iOS you need 5.1. My iPad 1st gen also seemed to be better at managing memory, on 5.0.1 it would crash anytime I tried to play a video, now it is much more responsive all around. Didn't really notice speed differences on my 4S though.

Battery fixes, new camera shortcut and delete albums from photo stream.

It's not about being an "isheep" as you put it. It's updating software on your phone to the latest version. Thats it.

Unless you like not being able to delete photo's in the photo stream and you really don't like the new camera shortcut then why not?

It only takes 5 minutes out of your life, its free, it adds things and doesn't take anything away. I don't understand your suspicion??

Update it and get new features, or don't, its upto you,

Try not to worry over such little things and get on with your day :)

I'm guessing that this guy is still on Leopard, if he's using a Mac, or Windows 98/XP/2000 if he's using a PC; all of which a perfectly usable.

If you look at the rest of the site, you will see threads like, my 5.1 battery sucks, my 5.1 volumes on my phone are now at a lower setting, etc.

If there is a reason you don't like 5.1, post it, (simple) :)
(pssst, this is how software gets improved, user feedback) ;)

Just because people update doesn't make them an "isheep" as you put it.

isheep is just a word used by the unintelligent to try and insult others and has no place in your context.

Updates generally provide bug fixes and sometimes new features. There really is no reason not to update.

Camera on the lock screen and deleting from Photostream was all I cared about. My phone has been working fine anyways.

I like it except that it broke my Flashlaunch app, which, I found out, isn't available in the app store anymore, so I guess it is dead.

I used it to quickly switch wifi/bluetooth on and off from the notification screen.

I guess Apple is happy for everyone to dig through 3 levels to make a quick change.

Yesterday you posted in the iOS 5.1 Battery thread "After a day and a half of heavy usage, I'm still at 83%". If you have or have access to multiple devices and one is running 5.1 aren't you willing to make the decision for yourself?

Conversely, I made the independent decision by reading this forum and comparing the "this is fixed" to the "this is now broken or still not fixed". To ignore or discount all that information and start a "Why not?" thread seems lazy.

I understand your concern about losing your JB (if this is the same device you've previously discussed) but I suggest you don't come in name calling the people who were able to make an informed decision or leap of faith and follow through. Especially since those are the same people you are now asking for advice.

Back on topic. What I don't like about it: Nothing. It fixed the AirPlay dropping issue I had with third party speakers and it feels snappier.

Oh SNAP!

I like the new camera access feature. Other than that it is pretty much just the same old system.

I was hoping this new update would fix my battery drain issue but alas it has not. I still have phantom usage of 13% overnight sitting at idle. :(

OP says user feedback is how software gets improved, which is true. However, what if everybody took the same stance as him, and waited for others to be the guinea pigs? We would all still be using windows 96.

If you see the rest of the site, you will see threads of people complaining about every single update since iOS 1.0 (yes, including battery drain issues).

If you were to listen to those people, you will never upgrade. iOS 5.1 was in beta for like 3 months and with every beta release it was always reported that it did not have many changes, so if you were expecting some big new features with the final version, well then you got your hopes up for nothing.

I took this screen grab and the last link is my favorite because somehow that person had battery drain issues just 2 days after the official launch of the iPhone in 2007.

Live update of songs on iPhone music app broken

On iOS 5.0, songs on smart playlists, sorted by least recently played will be repositioned to the bottom of the playlist after being played. It doesn't do that anymore with iOS 5.1.
