Who's switching to the new att plan?

I was wondering who is switching to the new att plan?
I have a grandfathered family share plan 5 lines 210 a month.
3 are smart phone 2 are not.
I get 3gb per smartphone unlimited text on all 5 lines 700 anytime min with roll over.
I use close to the 3gb per month the only 2 smastphone hardly use any.

With this new plan I would get unlimited talk and text and 10gb to share plus teathering for 200 a month.
Sounds good but if I upgrade without using att next whatever line I upgrade goes up 20 a month.
Not 100% sure what to do as if I switch no going back to the old plan.

That article is dated and isn't at all accurate when taking into account the new pricing options offered by AT&T. I'm not saying Next is a good option for everyone, but it's certainly offering a huge cost savings for our plan.

Presently, we have a mobile share plan for two smartphones and one tablet that offers unlimited call minutes and texts, includes 6GB of data, costs $170/mo. If I bumped up the data allowance to 10GB/mo under this old pricing, it would cost $190/mo. These prices are for a plan not using Next but rather the standard old 2 yr contracts.

Converting our plan to Next on a 10GB plan would now cost $140/mo, saving $50/mo or $600/yr. We are also going to have to add a line for our daughter soon and the new pricing saves us an additional $25/mo. Granted, most or all of this saving is lost if one decides to use the Next program to purchase their devices, however, the pricing also applies if you supply your own device or purchase your device upfront at full retail, so there is a good chance for savings. Basically, this change finally offers AT&T customer who don't participate in the device subsidy program and price break that has been available to many customers around the world for quite a while.

The new plan seems to be OK for me.
I will save only 10 a month but get 10g to share and unlimited talk and text and I can teather Witch I never had before.
Now I have 3g per smartphone and am the only one that uses it. The other two smartphones use 500mb a month but I pay for 3g just in case they go over.

Have you seen the new plan? It gives you a $25/month DISCOUNT (off of the cost of service) if you use Next or BYOD.

It's the compete opposite situation of the article you linked to.

If you do 2 smartphones on Next 12 or Next 18 (Flagship smartphones, not the crap ones), plus the 10GB family share plan, you are looking at roughly $170 per month (plus or minus $15).

Next is actually not a bad deal and I think ATT is giving you $100 per line to keep you or get you on to their service. Might want to look into that.

Sorry, but it looks like you are overpaying by relying on bad info.

If you do 2 smartphones on Next 12 or Next 18 (Flagship smartphones, not the crap ones), plus the 10GB family share plan, you are looking at roughly $170 per month (plus or minus $15).

Next is actually not a bad deal and I think ATT is giving you $100 per line to keep you or get you on to their service. Might want to look into that.

What I do is take all the upgrades for all the lines so I switch a lot if I change plans I don't think I can do that because I will have to pay full price for the phone or make payments.

I moved to this plan too. I don't need to upgrade every year anymore. And when I do, I'm buying on the used market. Much better deals.

After 12 months, a customer can opt to upgrade their device. But for the early upgrade to work, AT&T requires a trade-in with the customer's current phone or tablet in "good and functional condition." Accounts must be in good standing, i.e. you've consistently paid your monthly bills on time and aren't in the hole.

What happens if it's not? What if it has a small crack or slight dent? Would you have to pay in full to get another upgrade?

I just did, lowering my plan by around $150 a month. Was even able to use one last upgrade to get the G2, but it will be difficult going forward not having those upgrades. I needed to cut down on my phone spending anyway.

I wish AT&T came out with a deal for people with individual lines. Their current ones suck. Match T-Mobiles unlimited everything for $70 or something, even if you have to throttle after 5 gigs.

You only have to hand it in if you do an early upgrade, if you pay off the phone its yours. So basically your selling your old phone back to them for the price of whatever is left on your balance.

Isn't that article outdated? It doesn't take into account the $15 cheaper price for Next and non contract plans.

I honestly don't understand some peoples math, Next seems like a decent if not great deal to me. You don't have to come up with the up front cost of buying a phone, you don't even have to come up with the $200 fee or an activation fee. You get a NEW phone every year which you basically pay not much more than half price for give or take (Note 3 $724 versus 35x12 months= $420). Plus $15 savings per month is another $180/year.

They just did this past week. If your not under contract or using the next program, they give you $25 off each line not under contract.

Yep, just switched today. Saving $30 off of using prepaid/go phone with 2 phones and 2 tablets. Went from $180 to $150 and I got my tethering back.

I've been debating whether to change from 2 $60 go phone plans. Dont have any tablet plans, I can see why that pushed you over the edge.

Right now it looks like I would pay more and get more data that I dont really need. I wish att could quote the actual final bill on postpaid..

Yeah that's the caveat, if you don't need 10gb then it might not be worth it. For me it was worth it because I was also bringing in 2 tablets that I was paying $30 each for data. I've "found" ways to use more data, hehe. I stream music 2-3 hours daily while I workout at lunch, sometimes I stream television over my Optimum Cable app while I'm working on reports, I'm not afraid to download large apps/files, etc. It's a nice freedom to have.

Still, $120 go phone versus $130 post paid is very nice IMO. Taxes/fees suck as usual, but my wife's discount cancels out most of those.

I must say I'm in heaven tethering my Note 3 to my iphone, I didn't realize how important that feature is.

just didnt want to sign a contract for the FAN when the plan doesnt even require a contract, kind of silly

the terms are scary when logging in through the ATT Premier website, I'll try going into the store instead

now, will the IRS moan and groan when I deduct 50% of the family plan for business use (I'm self emplyed)?
