Nova.

I was using the Touchwiz launcher for 24hrs because I wanted to give it a fair chance, and in Nova, the icons don't change when I pick a theme, but I switched back to Nova last night, and don't feel like going back to Touchwiz.

I put Nova on all of my Android phones. I would use on my iphone too if i could. It provides a nice consistent user experience across devices this way.

Don't really see much of a difference. Staying stock for now.

Nova on everything, much better than even stock android
They need to revamp app drawer management - it's a bit messy to make folders and customise app drawer currently.

---

Use Nova on most devices but have actually found Sony's launcher on Lollipop is very good. Basically it strikes the balance between Google and Nova launcher.

Love Google now launchers - Google now implementation, but it's lack of app drawer sorting makes it often messy.

I have never really used a launcher other than stock.

So does a custom launcher completely disable TouchWiz?

No .. Touchwiz is more than just the launcher - it's the whole aesthetics of stock apps, all the extra customisations and enhancements/features, it's the specific settings for that device. It's basically the muscle grafted onto android backbone.

Therefore chasing launcher is like changing skin - the muscle of touchwiz and the backbone of android remain.

It just gives you a different front end to play with... And we all know how folks like playing with their front ends ;)

Ah cheers. I will stick to TouchWiz. :)

Not only did I stick with stock TW. I'm not even rooted yet.

I might not root at all this time.

I use Nova, but have used TW on this Galaxy phone more than any other but still use Nova 90-95% of the time. Nova just has so many things things you can change. I like my Dock icons smaller and like to have 7 of them on it.

You can get icon packs. I have a few of them and use them when i see fit with a theme.

I still don't understand why manufacturers insist on their own skins anyway. Why not just release stock and allow you to install/uninstall their own skins, tools etc? I have refrained from buying a S6/G4 simply because I don't want their crappy skins.

I planned on installing Nova as soon as I receive my S6 edge which was yesterday but so far I haven't. Using TouchWiz and I'm not sure I want to change to Nova.

Android wouldn't have picked up in popularity if it wasn't for manufacturer skins.

Perhaps - but at least give users the option. Isn't that what Android is all about?

It would be nice if the initial setup gave us a choice. But I don't see it as a toggle option.

Like on it's first boot up(factory restore) you can have the options ......
TouchWiz (recommended)
Stock Android

Would probably take up more system space, but if they start offering 64gb as standard, I doubt anyone would mind.

Yeah vanilla Android is so plain and featureless. Skins like TW really helped users embrace Android by providing more features that people want.

Manufacturer skins give users something to build off from when customizing, compared to using a blank canvas. Plus you have more options and features.

I personally do like stock android on my Nexus 7(2013). It's different on a tablet. I actually like my tablet use to be clean since I don't use it daily. But simple things like pulling down twice to get to the toggles is annoying on a smartphone. One of the many reasons I enjoy Samsung's TW.

Skins and services are nearly the only ways manufacturers using Android can differentiate themselves from their competitors since the hardware differences have become so slight.

I'm with you on your desire to have a choice to use an OEM's skin but understand why they don't do it. My frustration with Android stems from this issue. All too often, the phone with my desired hardware specs/design uses software that I don't like (Samsung) or vice versa (Motorola, HTC). I have yet to find the ideal blend of both hardware and software. Having the ability to choose my software experience would be ideal--just don't expect it to happen anytime soon, if ever.

Yeah, that's exactly what Samsung needs, to take up even more system space. ;)

Just to be clear before a diehard Samsung devotee aims their flamethrower at me, I'm very much joking.

Maybe I should try TW again. I haven't used it for years as I hated the stupid graphics and child like sounds. If I use Nova, which is ace, does that get rid of a lot of it? Then my gripe is having to wait for updates not like the Nexus and perhaps the Motorola devices.
