So, how many people are really missing a 12" PowerBook equivalent? Like a 12-13" Macbook Pro or what have you.

I know I sure am... I'm just curious about the demand for such a machine.

I also wonder if it's likely Apple will build one, or if they figure the Black Macbook fills that segment sufficiently.

I have a 12" PB and a MacBook (and, through work, a 15"MBP). I love the MB, but... the 12" is just a lot more portable and, well, lovable. Great little computer.

I would love to see a 12 book with a 256 video card, dl burner and huge hard drive. I use a MBP but would like a smaller full featured powerful book to take on the road for really long gear laden trips. Less in that case would be more.

I could care less about the name on it, MB or MBP. I'd take any 12 inch model that Apple released. They could call it the iPuter for all I care. I'd buy it.

I wish the macbook wasn't so wide and that the keys weren't spaced so far apart - yes, I'd like a proper PB replacement. Change for change's sake isn't good.

I really think mac is missing out not doing a macbook pro at 12" for the business person. I have a macbook pro 17" and its too large to lugg around everywhere thats why I'm trying to switch my 15" powerbook for a 12" powerbook.....

I'd like to see one with a screen res of 1920x1280 and a PPI of around 160 to accommodate said screen res on a 12" screen. I can dream.

Well, you might not get 1920x1280, but I think we WILL see a high res 12" or 13" MBP. And it won't happen till Leopard ships. Resolution independent GUI is key for smaller LCD—the MacBook is almost too small for my eyes as it is (ed. -that's what universal access is for, grandpa!)

A portable, full featured laptop that size would be great! Make it the thickness of the iPod Nano and you've got a winner ;)

Ok, maybe not the thickness part, but a small laptop with a decent GPU would rock

I used to own a 12" PB 1.5 Ghz with maxed out RAM and I loved it. I have since handed it down to my mom, who adores it because of it's portability, especially compared to my sister's G4 iBook. I have moved on to Apple desktops now, and though I do not crave for another portable, I am wishing for Apple to come up with a replacement for the 12" so as to satisfy the need of those who are looking for a Mac with even more ultra portability.

In my wishful thinking, this is how I see it: knowing how Apple always comes up with something that is revolutionary (e.g., iPhone), something really might come out and be a successor to the old 12". Something that uses Flash Drive for memory instead of HDs perhaps, to make it even more thinner? (Because what is the point of coming up with something that is similar with the old one if it still weighs in as hefty?) I have read about these flash drives; if they do come out with something over 60-80 gigs, then that would be something! It would make the new version thinner, and the battery life will probably last longer!

Oh, well, wishful thinking.

A 12" model would definatley make it compatable with cases and stuff, 13.3" is just an uncommmon size, can get annoying but i love it :)

I find these threads fascinating - everyone I know (in person) has laughed at me for my small laptops. I had a Sony R505 then my 12" iBook G4.

The iBook has had some issues - and I have to run 2 XP apps daily, so i've been using the Sony more and more. I broke out the iBook the other night and it was a DREAM. I loved the keyboard - the space, the touch the everything.

BUT, that said - i'm shopping for an upgrade for ME (i mainly use my kids eMac right now), and I'm planning on going to the 17" MBP if I can. It will be my only computer, I don't travel that much - and if I do, i'd be using it at my destination.

As for the iBook, I plan to pass it on to my 11yo for her school stuff after I get the new one....

Anyway, I hope you guys get one - and soon!!!!

I would actually love to see an Apple palmtop. I'm talking about maybe something along the lines of a Psion, only in Pro Aluminium, with a proper little keyboard and that iPhone multi-touch technology on the screen, instead of the Psion's stylus. Something that you could fit in your pocket easily. Maybe 8Gb flash memory and running OSX-Lite and come preloaded with iWork, iLife and all the other little useful apps. Throw in WiFi and Bluetooth and have a dedicated cradle for syncing and charging.

I would buy something like that in a flash :)

Wait a year or so. That sounds a lot like an iPhone with a better processor and a BT keyboard (which you can buy now). I'm sure one's in the planning stages... if they can get a chip to run OS X sufficiently, as opposed to the OS X variant that's in the iPhone.

When I bought my 15" MBP, I thought I'd sell the PB12 as I thought I wouldn't use it. Amazingly, it's really nice to have a smaller unit around the house, or when I just need a lappie for travelling.

This kind of points at me getting a MB - of course in Black. However, what's the point - I've a perfectly good working 12" machine so why bother.

There's absolutely no question in my mind that I would buy a MBP 12" the instant it became available - especially if it was smaller than the MB and had the better graphics processor.

I prefer the smaller form factor, especially for flying as they fit into the gap in the seat in front. A 15" is a PITA, and the MB has a weak graphics card for plugging it into a decent monitor when I get to where I'm going.

For business, the pros are the business. Or even the dogs danglies.
