Just got an Air with 16G and 512G SSD. Was able to use work discount, a $200 gift card, and traded in my 2018 MBA. So, I have a new Air for around $700! I'm excited to run through some performance tests!
Wow nice device keep us updated!!

I ordered the macbook pro 16g ram. I’m going to moving cross country soon and the desktop will be inaccessible for a long time. I‘ll be out of country until January, so it will be waiting for me once I get home. I‘m super excited because I haven’t had a laptop since 2011.

I'm the only Base M1 MBP guy? Wow.

I sold my 2020 intel I5/16/256 MBA last week to get the new base MBP. After fighting the battery life on every MBA I've owned, for years, I jumped as far as I could! Didn't know when I ordered how much cooler these run. That's a huge plus to me as well. I've always cut sessions short when using a laptop on my lap due to the heat. No longer.

Both are great machines I'm sure. The Air would have suited me fine. They always have in the past. But I wanted to be rid of cords mid-day. The cooler temperatures of these things have quickly made this the first laptop I've owned that I really like. I'll use it more often and for longer than anything in the past. Tickled!

PS, I've always upgraded RAM in the past because of conventional beliefs about it. This is the first time I did not. Always felt kinda duped by that belief in the past. Wish me luck

Speaking of desktops, IMO always max out the RAM (within reason) but SSD is not so important. You can go to Walmart and walk out with a 4tb drive for about a hundred bucks. My video, audio, downloads, programming and temp libraries are all on USB, leaving the main SSD for system stuff. I seldom go over 200 gb and that is only when I haven't dumped the trash in a while.

Laptops are a little stickier, depending on how much data you can afford to leave behind on your desk. Fiddling with a USB drive in a coffee shop or customers office is kind of a drag. So, I went for the whole ball of wax on my Air (16gb, 512gb SSD, but not on the Mini (16gb but the smaller SSD.)

Off the subject, to me the new MBPro is not so much PRO as more of an MBAir Plus, or Deluxe, or Heavy duty, etc. Very little difference inside.

The higher end off the shelf Air doesn't have 16gb. It has an 8 core GPU and 512gb of storage but only 8gb of memory.

AFAIK the only difference is the MBP has an extra 100 nits. Other than that the MBA and MBP both seemingly use the exact same panel.

yeah seems so, the MBA this time around seems much brighter than the last time I had one years ago.... very pleasant.
