New MBA is announced as I type - but with C2D (don't know specs yet)? Why, Apple, why? These are DEAD in 3 months? Is it worth still to upgrade, (pending RAM size and SSD size)?

EDIT: And Apple, now, c'mone 2G of freaking memory AND C2D? I guess I pass on this one, thanks. Same RAM (at least base level, can we BTO?), same processor, probably worse (glossy screen), basically same weight (2.9 vs 3.0 pounds) - REDICULOUS. OK it has a 256 SSD but thats about the only advantage (besides battery life, which I do not need) and not worth 1.6k

EDIT 2: Ok, now 4G is available so that looks much better. Almost would have pulled the trigger until I learned that it has no backlit keyboard... Why? Its so usefull. I at least need that more thabn 7h battery life...

This is awesome. Can't wait to see the air elitists post now that they realise every kid is gonna have a Macbook Air.

Many lol's :D

I can see tiny tears rolling down Scottsdale's cheek as the presentation continues.

cause C2D is still a very capable processor

2GB ram is the problem, though it still looks spankin hot

Agree, I was about to throw this macbook on craigslist until I saw 2GB or ram. :(

Still will go and check it out though.

Wonderful. Bought a MBA two weeks ago, fearing something horrible would happen, and there we are. It's not just slower (maybe 2.13 GHZ will be a BTO option?), but it didn't even improve on the two weakest points IMHO which are lack of 3G/UMTS built-in and 4GB.

Heck, the new design is even uglier.

EDIT: ok, at least it seems to support 4GB and 2.13 GHz as a BTO :)

"What tech specs page? The store isn't back up yet."

Go to homepage, click on Air ad, click Tech Specs tab

Well, I correct myself, the tech sepcs say up to 4 G RAM and 2.13 so we go from 2g/128 to 4G and 256, which alone might be worth it now - but why still C2D?

Because going to a Core i3 or i5 processor would mean ditching the NVIDIA GPU in favour of Intel's crappy ones. It's not like you're not losing much real-world performance going from i3 to C2D - especially for the uses people will be buying these Airs for.

Besides, if Apple did sell a Core i3 version, people would just whine about the crappy graphics performance. Their in a no-win scenario, thanks to Intel...

well... it isn't very wise to buy an air when the last gen air was utterly due for an upgrade unlike the MBPs which were upgraded only a few months ago...just sayin

I have no idea what you're saying. We shouldn't buy an Air because they're not updated that frequently? We should buy a MBP because they were updated a few months ago? How does that make sense?
