I am a frequent poster on certain a video game forum, primarily a PC gaming forum. There was a poster who made a post on tips buying macs. I put my two cents in, mainly about buying RAM from companies like OWC which will be cheaper if you buy from Apple. Suddenly posters came out of nowhere and started flaming mac owners. The typical macs sucks at gaming is pretty much was the main argument or they can't be upgraded. When I want to play games I turn on my X Box 360. I'm relatively new to macs but the continuous bashing of macs and mac owners is sad. Every time someone makes a mac post either some idiot says don't buy one or you'll will waste your money if you do. Mighty funny if macs suck so badly why you have 10-15 year PC veterans switching to macs?

There is the chance that Apple may adopt the very goofy skulltrail platform.
Don't know whether the Nvidia SLI makes sense for a workstation though, which may be what makes it or breaks it for Apple.
If they do, that would be based on Intel's top notch gaming platform, and have make a little better sense than trying to play games on the current workstation.
Of course Apple will aim it at the workstation crowd, so they will still complain about it costing $500-1000 more than a skulltrail gaming station from Dell and rant about the cost of FB-DIMMs.

Basically, Apple is aiming at a different market than PC makers -- notebook based machines and workstations. Apple sees a lot more growth in these two markets, and they are right about the notebook based side. PC makers are looking at iMac type machines for desktops, though not always AIO machines.
But it was the low end G4 towers that sold companies on upgrades, which we have lacked since Apple tried the last G5-based headless iMac.

There are some people who cannot understand that they are not the end-all-be-all of the industry. PC gamers spend thousands on their computers over the years, so on some level they often start to think "I spend so much money on this, if the industry doesn't cater to my whims, they'll lose out!" This thought process doesn't take into account that for every $5000 tricked-out megabox, there are 50 users trucking along on bottom-end eMachines. (Note: Nothing against gamers. I'm a gamer myself-- just reporting on behavior that seems to be becoming more common)
The same logic comes into play when the Mac issue comes up. Macs "suck" because they don't cater to gamers. Of course, we can just conveniently ignore the fact that Apple computers are great for artists, graphic designers, IT professionals, middle aged housewives, circus clowns, astronauts... etc. The fact that Macs perfectly fit the needs of many, many people is *not* canceled out by the fact that they do not fit the needs of FPS fanatics.
That's where the "hate" comes in. When you invest a lot of your time and energy into a certain industry, you naturally lose a bit of perspective about where you stand in the grand scheme of things. I'm guilty of it myself, I admit it.
And yes, there are some macs that would be great for gaming, they're just really expensive, and therefore conveniently ignored.

The iMacs are a killer, their graphic cards are mediocre at best and can never really be upgraded. If Apple offered a decent mid-ranged tower and more ability to customize like they should, I'm sure more PC gamers would like Macs and switch.
Listen, I don't think gamers are asking for too much here, besides Apple not choosing aesthetics over function and expandability on one more model.
I mean really, it's 2007 and Apple is still firm in thinking there are two catagories of people and only two, a consumer who only wants to check their mail, web browse, and use iLife, then there is the pro who Apple thinks just uses CS and other creative programs.
You know this might be somewhat acceptable with the PowerPC, you couldn't really compare an x86 Dell to a PowerPC Mac, but now you can, hell you can get the exact same specs on some models (and of course it would be a lot cheaper for the PC).
Intel allows so much more options and abilities, and Apple is stuck in their PowerPC mentality.
Really all gamers want is a machine that's at least as customizable as an average PC makers website, and can be upgraded over time. It's the same reason I believe Valve blasted Steve Job's and Apples approach to gaming.
