So I have a M2 Max 16" MBP and in Ventura I got scores of around 440, once i updated to Safari 17 (still on Ventura) my score went up to 487.

When I updated to Sonoma my score went back down to 450-455. Other people have posted their score raging from 490 up to 540.

Im baffled as to why its gone back down and no where near everyone else's.

Ive done a restart and tried it with no content blocker with no improvements.

Is there anything or settings I can try?

When I first learned about Speedometer 2.1 in an earlier post, I gave it a try. I was somewhere in the low 300s. Just tried it again with similar results. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the results be affected by the speed of the internet connection? I live in the boonies and have a very slow connection, and the speed varies with the time and day, I assume due to variable traffic. Perhaps you tested your score during a slow period.

Speedometer barely uses any internet, its only kb/s if any, it doesn't matter what time of day I test it.

So I updated my Dads M1 iMac and did the exact same thing as I did to my M2 max MBP.

On Dads M1 iMac,
Speedometer 2.1 score on Ventura with Safari 16 = 360
Speedometer 2.1 score on Ventura with Safari 17 = 407
Speedometer 2.1 score on Sonoma 440.

There's no way an M1 is just as fast as an M2 max, there has to be something wrong with my MBP.

Thinking of doing a full reset and see what happens .
