Hello, Ive tried everything. But I cannot Jailbreak or unlock my iphone.

Im running on windows 7, i phone version 2.1 (5f136), serial number:868451xdy7h, model:MB702LL, Modem Firmware 02.11.07

Ive tried every guide, But always get stuck. For some reason it does not allow me to upgrade the firmware to 3.0 in my itunes 9.

I go to itunes, click Shift+restore And In the place where I downloaded the firmware it does not find anything but folders..

All help appreciated, If you need me to be more specific about something please ask. Thanks!

im pretty sure you have to buy the update...buy it on itunes, cancel the download, now try shift + restore to the firmware. use firmware 3.1.2, thats jailbreakable and unlockable.

Make sure that your browser is not "unzipping" the .ipsw firmware files after downloading. It should be a single file with an .ipsw extension. If it's a folder it's not going to work.

I dont really know how to tell if my browser is "unzipping" it or not. Im almost positive im downloading the correct thing, But I do not see a .ipsw file in there anywhere. Im opening it with winrar.
Here are screen shots of what it looks like:

Is that even the correct thing to download?

Hey, it's right at the top bar of the window...it says .zip

Change it to .IPSW

Click thumbnail to enlarge-look for red circle

The problem is that you're opening it with WinRAR. An ipsw is really a zip archive with a different extension. But you don't need to unzip it. It's not a zip file with an ipsw inside; the whole file that you downloaded is the ipsw. iTunes uses the .ipsw just the way you downloaded it, unzipping it on the fly.

Note: Windows may be changing the extension to .zip; if that's the case, change it back to .ipsw.

wow I feel like an idiot, I relalize what happend now. Its not allowing me to renaim it and it become a .ispw file. So im RE-downloading it with firefox so that it will save a .ispw.
Thanks!

And whats the best version to download for jailbreaking + unlocking?
Im downloading 3.0.0 now..

Now its not letting me update..
Im getting this error message for some reason:
Ive tried to restore in DFU, regular, and The mode with the ipod cord showing on the screen

what iphone are you using? the first iphone firmware file should be named iPhone,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw; iphone 3g should be named iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw; and iphone 3gs should be named iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw. you dont have a 3gs because you cant use 2.1 on a 3gs...so just telling you incase you downloaded the wrong one. if youre using the wrong firmware file, it wont restore because its not for the right model.

Ill google the version you posted and Download it.
Look up about 4 posts or so and you will I posted a picture of the winrar that I downloaded the Version with. And the Title of that winrar is the version I downloaded. I guess its the wrong one... Time to try again haha.
