I have a IPP 10.5 (using the last iOS 12). Most of the time I only use in landscape mode, since I watch videos in my bed, also with the help of a tablet stand. A few were mentioned in this thread:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/recommended-9-7-or-10-1-5-tablet-stand.2078298/

And of course I can place the iPAD in one of these stands, in a desk. Which means I rarely use portrait mode, and placing the tablet in a stand (and both in a desk) will help with posture, since I'll be sitting upright in a chair, while reading an ebook/studying, for example.

The thing is, there are always a few (I will call them "black sheep") apps that are poorly done, since they do not rotate the screen (there's no landscape support - only portrait), these are clearly made for iPhones, despite the fact you can install them in your iPAD.

These apps look like (pardon the word) S.HIT in an iPAD. They are comically bad in it. They are blown up versions, stretched-out for the iPAD. The fact the screen does not rotate/there's no landscape support means this isn't suited for an iPAD.

My question is: why Apple hasn't outright banned them from being installed in iPADs?

For example: we can't install WhatsApp in the iPAD:
https://itunes.apple.com/br/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997?mt=8

And we can't adjust the App Store/iTunes search for the iPhone version of this app and install in the iPAD anyway. It won't work. So there's no iPAD support for WhatsApp AT ALL.

You either have any iPhone or... use Android.

Now look at this app, for instance:

https://itunes.apple.com/br/app/digio/id1128793569?mt=8

It's one of what I use to access a free credit card I have.

Or this one, from a "local" eBay:

https://itunes.apple.com/br/app/mercado-livre/id463624852?mt=8

A "local" speedtest:

https://itunes.apple.com/br/app/brasil-banda-larga/id689960289?mt=8

The Uber app is not bad as these last two examples, but doesn't rotate the screen, either:

https://itunes.apple.com/app/uber/id368677368?mt=8

So what's your opinion? Shouldn't Apple ban these apps from being installed in iPADs unless the developers adjust them to landscape mode and to suit the iPAD?

I think in the beginning, when the iPad first came out, Apple let iPhone only versions of the apps to run on iPad because it just had to. Their was no apps really ready for it. As time moves on, majority of apps have iPad version of the apps. Very few of my apps I have on my iPad is iPhone only. And even those, they either haven’t been updated in a while or a developer is just to lazy..

But for instance, Uber.. I don’t think The iPad is really part of their target audience. Uber is meant to be used spare of the moment and portable. I can’t see many people walking out of the store, mall, bar and whip out their iPad to get an Uber.

In the Uber case I agree you don't see many people walking with perhaps a LTE iPAD and ordering a taxi.

However I think it's ridiculous that such apps that don't rotate the screen (no landscape support) and others clearly made for the iPhone are still allowed to be downloaded for iPADs.

What Apple should do in my opinion is to disallow these apps to be installed in iPADs and send a message to all developers to create a proper tablet version. Frankly I am tired of the fact 90% of my apps work fine in my iPAD then I have to put up with 5 or 6 that are like the ones I commented in the 1st post.

This sort of thing Apple does not enforce in the Apple Store.

No. Don’t ban them. Give us some way to enforce overriding the lack of rotating etc.

This is also an issue for apps that don’t support the slide over multi tasking. Don’t ban the apps. Change iOS so that all apps can do it regardless of the app.

I’m a Lyft driver sometimes. I use an iPad mini instead of a phone because maps is so much better on a bigger screen. The Lyft driver app is one of these offending apps. Lyft is never going to support iPads. Your idea would mean I have no option at all. At least the blown up phone version option for me is better than nothing.

Instagram is the worst offender, but I stopped using it in general anyway.

I know... it's amazing to me that pretty much the most popular photo sharing social network is the one where photos look the worst: Awkward crops, low resolution, compression artifacts, etc. I know it started as a way of embracing the "Lo-Fi" Lomography-esque photo quality of early smartphone cameras, and it succeeded in making filters so trendy that even photographers sporting expensive DSLR kits were throwing vintage filters on their photos to make them look more like what you'd get out of a plastic film camera or a 2010-era smartphone. I thought it would fade into obsolescence at one point. Then Facebook bought it and suddenly it's the thing again. The least they could have done is update the app so it's universal, modern, and capable of displaying content that actually looks decent on today's high resolution smartphones and tablets. I can still make a photo look like it was shot with a pinhole camera when I want to, but if I'm posting a landscape photo or video I'd like people to see it in all its high-res glory. At least let it look as good as it looks when posted on Facebook (which isn't Flickr or Smugmug, but it's miles better than Instagram for photos). Facebook's Messenger app stinks almost as badly and they keep pushing it like it's the greatest thing, so maybe Facebook just knows they don't have to try anymore and people will keep using their services. I haven't used any of them much for over a year now. I could see actually using Instagram if they improved it. Now that Smugmug owns Flickr, I'd like to see Flickr run over Instagram. I don't see it happening though.
