ok i went in to the apple store today to get my mini fixed and to show them the problem i brought my computer and how it wasn't putting music on it, so they say try your mini on one of the store computers and see what happens, so i take my computer and mini to a counter with a store imac on it and i place my macbook down and plug in my mini i then notice my macbook screen is flickering, then the backlight goes off but the screen is still on and whatnot so i take it to the genius bar and they inspect it and examine it closely. so they "say sure we can fix it". then 3 hours later they call me saying that it's leaking pineapple juice. and that its not covered in the warranty and i have to pick it up or pay for the repair.the funny thing is that i'm allergic to pineapple, even juice so i couldn't have spilled it. i never leave it out of my site so no-one else spilled anything on it. the only thing i can think of is that someone spilled on the counter i put my macbook on but you think they would have noticed that when the geniuses inspected and examined my macbook.

just wanted to exercise this demon and let you all know.

PS don't worry i'm still a macaddict:D :D :D :apple:

The fact that they seem to know what liquid was spilled on it makes them suspect. I've have never left the Apple Store at all after hearing that. They may as well have buried an ax in your macbook in front of you.

well i finally got the entire story from apple and the genius said it just smelled like pineapple juice. and he said it was only about 5 drops or so but since that qualifies as liquid damage he couldn't do any more to it and he said the damage to it is equal to a car being wrapped around a pole and its a $1000 repair. Something about the logic board or whatever but long story short it isn't worth the repair and i am instead going to purchase a 20" imac. :apple: :apple: :apple:

Wait a second. Hold on a minute.

At first it sounded like you didn't know why your Apple was having problems and now you aren't fighting them, gonna buy a new computer, and warn against being clumsy with liquids! Are you admitting to spilling something?

Me? Cornfuzed. :(

Did you spill drink on your machine?

I could've sworn you said you took it in for maintenance and that you were surprised when the Apple guy said there was liquid inside (implying that an Apple rep spilled liquid on your machine).

Did you mislead them and us?

It leaked pineapple juice instead of apple juice? Obviously it a manufacturer's defect.

Ok, I thought macrumors would eventually find out, but...

Macs are really powered by ground up apples. All those chips and transistors on the motherboard really contain bits and peices of apples... macintosh apples to be precise.

THE SECRET'S OUT.

Pineapple juice tastes good but is not conducive to rapid thinking.

It became obvious as soon as he said 'but I'm allergic to pineapple juice'.

I have worked tech before (back in my PC days) and I know customers will say absolutely anything to get out of paying for repairs and on more than one occasion on liquid damaged laptop the response we almost always get is:

"But I'm allergic to/i don't even like <insert liquid substance here> it must have been you!"

Whoa. About this time last year I was at my local Apple store to see if they could help out with a bad HD. The fella at the Genius Bar next to me had his brand new Macbook in there (or it might have been an iBook, can't recall) and was having all sorts of troubles with it. The Genius opened it up and some yellowish crystals fell out, plus two of them smelled the insides and declared it was pineapple juice.

The customer got all upset, not at them, but at his mental list of dorm room suspects.

Very odd that two people would have pineapple juice ruin their laptops and be discovered at the Genius Bar.
