I have one.

The portrait and landscape auto change mode still bugs heck out of me every time it happens when I don't want it to change. Can't this be fixed with a firmware upgrade? It shouldn't be that hard to fix.

My guess is that Steve Jobs just prefers it as is no matter how many iPhone and iPod Touch users want an option to lock it. That's the only explanation that I can think of why Apple still does not fix this annoyance.

Just because it annoys you doesn't mean it annoys Steve.

Other things, like missing some multi-billion dollar business opportunity, or finding some product packaging insert that doesn't make a high fashion statement, probably annoy him a lot more.

is it really that annoying? i never accidentally switch the phone from landscape to portrait, or vice versa. just be a little more careful with the way you're holding your phone

If your device is Jailbroken then use: Rotation Inhibitor: SBSettings Toggle Allows you to Disable Accelerometer

And I agree there should be an option without having to jailbrake but alas Apple have loads of stupid options missing to annoy us, but then they have loads of genius ones to impress us with. Obviously they dont strive for perfection.

I use it when in bed watching a quick tv show or BBC iPlayer. Helps me falls asleep and keeps the screen locked so if I move it where it rests it doesn't flip.

I don't like the idea of being to disable the accelerometer. I can just see a bunch of idiots disabling it, then can't figure out why half their apps don't work right.

And your argument will be, "Well, if they turned off the accelerometer, then they'd know what they did." Unfortunately, wrong. People are inherently ignorant about electronic devices and don't know what most options and preferences do to a device. I see it on a daily basis. I had a guy come in that had activated the zoom feature on his iPhone and couldn't figure out why everything was zoomed in so much. Yes, you read that right. He told me he activated zoom so he could "pinch" and "stretch" no matter what app he was doing with the phone.

Don't make it easier for people to screw up their devices. Just my philosophy.

doesn't bother me

it seems that it mostly annoys people who use their iPhones while they are in bed

that's what girlfriends are for :D

airplane mode timer & folders

Why not create a timer to shut turn on or off airplane mode? I love falling asleep while watching videos on my iPhone... I don't need the extra radiation! (yeah, I know that there are apps available if I hack it... not my style)

How about the ability to create folders to store your apps? (why must we be uncivilized?)

Apple's philosophy as well, sadly for all of us with braincells and some sense of individuality / originality / creativity / adventure / call it what you will.

So, the answer is "No you can't, idiot - now, what's the question?"

You'd hope they'd blush and feel ashamed when they remember their old philosophy, and their old marketing messages, but I suspect they are too far gone down the control route now.

It drives me nuts as well, even more now with 3.x as more apps beside Safari now auto-rotate. I just want to be able to turn that off.

Another one that bugs me that would be an easy fix - is why can't I create an email to a group I have in my Address Book!

The third is the lack of an open API to toggle on/off bluetooth.
